The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.

Psalm 28:7

There are many things people miss out on by not knowing what the Word says about a certain subject. But David understood that God was his strength and his shield, and as a result, because his heart trusted the Almighty he was helped. Regardless of the enemy’s power and the adversities David was going through, that servant of the Lord was happy and praised the Almighty with his own songs. You will trust God when you understand that He is your strength and your shield.

Without the knowledge of what the Holy Word tells us we should not expect to be aided in our difficulties. He who does not know what the Scriptures say about their rights in Christ misses out a lot. In fact, when trial comes, those who stop seeking what belongs to them do not even know what step to take. The worst is that in times of trouble this type of person is likely to accept guidance that is not from God.

It sounds simple, but if you do not understand that your strength and your shield are God Himself, you will lose much. The Lord is majestic and lives on High, and He is also our fortress. Mind you, not only does He strengthen us, but He is the very Strength Himself. So how we can say we will not overcome if He is in us to make us stronger than our enemy?

Besides being our Strength, He is our Shield. If you have that understanding and believe in what is ministered to you, trusting that no arrow from hell will reach you, you will live quietly and unscathed through life. That’s why David said: A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you. (Psalm 91:7). The Word of God must be accepted exactly as it was written.

David reveals a big secret: he was helped because he trusted. If your heart does not trust that the Lord speaks through preaching, through the reading of the Bible or the meditation on what drew your attention in the Bible, you won’t be able to believe. Putting our trust in the Lord is not something we do with great effort; we simply cease to believe in the threats of the evil one and we start to trust what the Father says to our heart.

For David, the enemy’s power didn’t matter at all; he was always cheerful, even amid trouble and strife (Psalm 119:92). The heart that trusts does not lose the joy that’s placed in it through the revelation of the Word. Even David’s praise came straight from the Lord in the great congregation. He praised God with his own song, and not with anybody else’s.

By understanding that the Lord is your Strength and Shield too, you will trust. This is what you should seek; this is what will produce the true faith that moves the divine power. When you are instructed by God, your heart rejoices, and when you find out what you are in Christ and what you can do in the Lord, then you will overcome.

In Christ with love,
