12/09/2011 - The Greatest Best-Seller of all Times

André Soares

“Bestseller” is a noun of the English language that refers to the popularity of a book that has sold a great amount of copies. Each week newspapers and magazines publish a list of the best-sellers of a certain period.

However, even if the ranking is constantly changing, there is a book that never leaves the top position and is a permanent bestseller: the Bible.
The Holy Scripture is the best selling book of our planet, having been translated into 900 languages.

Since 1549, the “Bible Day” is celebrated on the second Sunday of December to highlight the importance of reading the Holy Book. Currently, the “Bible Day” is celebrated by Christians around the world. In Brazil, the creation of the Brazilian Bible Society (Sociedade Bíblica Brasileira – SBB) in 1948 helped to reinforce that date.

I cannot finish this text without thanking God for sending us His living and powerful Word. “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)
