The father encouraged us a few times to listen to His beloved Son, but very rarely we do that. We should never pick other people as our counselors. People are wrong when they despise the Creator of all things, because He has foreknowledge – the capacity to know the future – and He is at our disposal to teach and to operate in every situation. In His omniscience, the Lord loves us with a pure and unconditional love. He is our Father!
The man who walked beside David were of great assistance and followed his orders. However, when they started questioning his decisions, they became a great problem to all. Complaint was like the beginning of a wound that would cause much pain. A channel for the enemy to come in was being opened right there. David had to deal with that situation immediately, before a spirit of disobedience arose.
To listen to anyone, before first seeking the will of God, is a trap of the enemy. Many times, even servants used by the Lord are influenced by human advice and compromise the resources of God’s work, that was entrusted to them so that millions would be saved – we’ve seen this happen in times of affliction. Without realizing it, they surrendered to the devil, who stopped them from fulfilling the assignments given by God.
Not even successful ministers of the gospel should be consulted, unless their orientation comes from the Lord. Even if you are completely certain that such person could help you, do not despise the One who is God with the Father. To listen to the Son – the Word of God – is to be completely certain of victory. Remember that the Son is the omnipotent God in heaven and earth. Without Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
From a human perspective, the way David’s men were thinking was correct, but since they were human thoughts, they counted for nothing (John 6:63). Those who give ears to the flesh (to man), will face many tribulations without a doubt. Only with the Lord speaks in His Word is useful for His children and to those who haven’t yet decided to serve Him. It is very sad to say this, but there are people who don’t see a problem to continue living under the power of the devil. Lord have mercy!
It is very clear that we should listen to no one before seeking a response from God. If we have been doing that, we must forget such advices: This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing (Jeremiah 13:10). There’s nothing better than always using the Scriptures as a foundation.
Don’t be afraid of what you will have to face. With wise instructions, coming from the Lord, you will make war. Our dependency on the Most High should be complete, but we shouldn’t seek Him just when problems arise. It is so good to have communion with our celestial Father. Underneath His wings, we will live in peace and well protected.

Lord, our infallible Counselor! If David had listened to his warriors, he wouldn’t receive the direction that always comes from You. When we replace You with men, everything goes wrong. Without Your orientation, we will do nothing well!
Jeremiah’s broken belt proves that only You give life and You will never be affected by any action of the enemy. Oh how we need You to stop corruption on the earth! Peter’s example, when He said Jesus was the Christ, and later he was rebuked, is an alarm to us!
We must be ready to consult You, because our battles are Yours. No battle can come against us without Your approval. May we behave as obedient servants at all times! Amen!
