Israel spent 40 years in the desert needlessly, because they doubted the Word of the Lord, fearing to go in the territory of the Amorites (Deuteronomy 1.26-33). It’s not possible to question the Most High and stand firm in His presence, for when He speaks, He has already prepared everything for your victory. When you hear the divine command, believe and set out to accomplish what He has said. God is faithful in everything!
It’s true that the Hebrews didn’t have an army up to the task of fighting the Amorites, but what the Lord had planned didn’t include physical combat. As they went against them, hornets, insects the size of birds or even bigger, would appear and intimidate their opponents, who fleed in terror. Since they sent spies, and these were used by the enemy, the Israelites had to walk through the desert for 40 years. Keep watch!
Many Christians face big problems for the same reason. Instead of listening to the Lord’s guidance, they rather cower in fear and abandon Him. By doing this, they chose to walk alone, for it doesn´t matter to God is men is next to Him or not. The Most High desires to save the lost from His wrath, which will be manifested at the Judgment, when the rebels will go to damnation (1 Thessalonians 1.10).
For centuries, God dealt with them, but since they did not accept to be part of the divine plan, because they wanted to continue in the perdition of prostitution and other transgressions, such as sexual idolatries – they displeased the Lord. If they had listened, they wouldn’t have wandered for so long. Because they didn’t want to go all the Way with the Truth, they suffered the punishment. Likewise, whoever leaves the Way will suffer in the lake of fire and brimstone.
How much it hurt to see a fellow countryman killed, when they could see the inhabitants of Canaan fleeing in fear to other corners! God said that He would send them hornets, but they didn’t believe Him, and they wasted years in that inhospitable place. Why didn’t they turn to the Almighty, who had told them to go up and possess the land of the Amorites? Whoever prefers rebellion will feel the weight of God’s hand!
Even in the desert, the chosen people remained headstrong; this made the Lord raise up a new generation through Moses. This man of God knew how to intercede and appease the divine anger. The deliverer’s intervention saved those people from being annihilated. The murmuring Christians, who do their own will, to the detriment of the Almighty’s purpose, and the disobedient ones, must take care in order to survive.
It seems that many people do not believe God’s warnings, because they continue to do what He condemns, almost as a provocation. The day will come when Jesus will return in the twinkling of an eye. Then, everything that man has planned will be discovered, and those who did not get ready will be condemned to eternal punishment.

Lord of secret weapons! We have no way to plan a better way to do Your work, for we are imperfect. So we come to You to plead for help, in order to keep ourselves prepared for the return of Your Son!
How foolish the heads of the families of Israel were, when they asked Moses to allow them to send men to spy on Canaan! Now, Your Word should remedy any rebellion, because when You speak, we receive precise guidance!
The Amorites would despair and perish, for not having repented of their wickedness, and Your mercy would drive them far away, where they would live differently. The Hebrew leaders spoiled Your plan. Mercy, Lord!
