He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that He may judge His people.    Psalm 50.4

From His heavenly position, the Almighty summoned His kingdom and that of men to see the work that His Spirit would do on earth, where the devil ruled with some authority. Prior to this confrontation, in speaking of His arrest, His trial and His death, Jesus spoke concerning what would happen to the king of evil, saying: Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out (John 12.31). Thank God, for this has already happened and we have been set free!

The Son of God came into the world to redeem us from the Fall, rescue us from perdition, and bring us into the arms of the Lord. In His death, Christ descended into Hell and stripped Satan and the kingdom of darkness of the authority stolen from Adam – that which the Father granted over creation. The devil can no longer oppress anyone he wants, so we must give the Good News to everyone in order to achieve deliverance.

In the verse before the one we are studying, the psalmist declares that the Lord will come and will not be silent. The saved must wait for the Father to speak to them, and this will happen when they read the Word and meditate on it. In this way, He will make them understand His will. Those who accept God’s direction become blessed and empowered to fulfill what the Scriptures point to as our responsibility. Believe and overcome!

The Lord calls Heaven and Earth together to witness the judgment of His people. We are the beneficiaries of this judgment, for Jesus took the burden by which we would undergo the punishment for sins and the consequent turning away from God and the blessings promised in the Bible. Now all we have to do is exercise our right and believe; then the evils we suffer will be destroyed. God is for us!

Before the Most High there is a fire which consumes all that does not come from Him (Psalm 97:3), but from the depths of hell, in order to take us out of our position in Christ. The saved person should take time to learn the Word, so as not to fall prey to the wiles of the enemy, who, according to Peter, wants to swallow us up: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5.8).

When the Lord operates, a kind of storm happens around Him, and everything that is no good gets stirred up and has to come out. Divine action causes a turmoil of the demons that invest against God’s children, so be prepared not to hinder the operation of the Almighty. The darkness trembles as it faces the power received from God that we pray and bring the fire of Heaven to Earth. God in us is His fire acting in our favor.

The heavenly fire, active when the Sovereign blesses us, disturbs Satan, who, many times, has been nestling in our hearts, putting wrong desires in them. Analyze the wrong attitudes in your life and demand the exit of these evils. We have been called to be the witnesses of Jesus and we cannot let anything of the enemy remain in us. Let’s do our part!
