01/21/2013 - The Essential Quest

André Soares

It is always a pleasure to share thoughts, messages and activities of my daily life through this column I write to the Ongrace website. I believe it is a tool used by God so that I can share with our brethren the revelations that the Holy Spirit has placed in my heart.

I start Reflections 2013 with verse 20 from Matthew 18, when Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” In this passage, the Lord was referring to the importance of fellowship among the brethren. In Hebrews 10:25, the Apostle Paul reinforces this approach by saying that “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another.”
Going to church is more than a gold star for attendance on Sundays or a social gathering. It is the fulfillment of a commandment, one chosen moment to pray asking for God’s presence. If we don’t seek such moment, we became void of the Spirit and therefore have no spiritual strength to face the days after that moment of worship.
The coexistence with the other members of the church is also a strengthening process. The brethren are our friends, confidants, counselors, comforters, helpers, or just pleasant company during the tribulation. And we, as servants of the Lord, must also fulfill the role of mentors and, as Paul said, even rebuke a friend with love when they make a decision or take an action that is inconsistent with the principles of the gospel.
For you, who never miss the moments of worship to God, I pray that He will keep renewing your strength. And for those who do not congregate, know that you are chosen by Christ. Jesus has prepared the moment when you will also feel the well-being and the indescribable peace He provides. Peace that can only be reached through this essential quest of the Spirit.
