When He was tempted in the desert, our beloved Savior showed us a great example. After fasting for 40 days and 40 nights, He was hungry, and the tempter, knowing His needs, came to him and offered Him an easy way out: Jesus had to prove He was the Son of God, by converting the stones to bread (Matthew 4:3). At first, the proposition seemed simple, and the Lord Jesus would easily fulfill his need. Did the devil want to end the Lord’s hunger? Did he want to help Him? Of course he didn’t! He was being very cunning. In Romans 6:16, the Word says: “Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” When we understand this verse, we realize just how cunning the devil was being, by wanting the Lord to be his servant. When someone has a need, they are often presented with an easy solution, which may show itself as a lucrative business opportunity or an easy profit. However, if we compare this solution with the Word of God, we can see that this is only the enemy at work, trying to tempt us and when we do something that is against the will of the Lord, we are obeying the devil. Brethren, God has nothing against the fact that you have a good car, a good house, or a good income, but take care not to stray far from the Word, because during the temptation in the desert, the Lord’s answer was clear: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4). If, in order to have a car, a house, or any other pleasure, you have to go against the Word of God, don’t. If you do, you will fall into the devil’s trap, and be a servant of an enemy that is wicked, and only knows how steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). In the next article, I will speak about the part where the devil tries to use the Word of God to confuse the Savior, but he can’t. Don’t miss it! See ya! |
