12/02/2013 - Whom do you serve?  (Part 3)

Pr. Jayme de Amorim

Today we will look at the servant’s
reward. We have already seen what it means to obey the Word of God,
now we are going to learn that there are rights and privileges at the
disposal of those who are the Lord’s true servants. Two very
important things are attached to the life of one who places him or
herself under the authority of the Father. I will number them below.

1 –
They pray and are answered. In the book of the prophet Isaiah,
chapter 44, verse 26, it is written that God confirms the word of His
servant. Therefore, when a servant of God prays, the Lord Himself
honors what He has said: “Those who honor me I will honor”
(1 Sm 2:30).

1b –
Once a woman gave me her testimony, saying that her father had been
beyond medical help. His doctor came to her and said : “Call your
family’s spiritual leader, because your father’s heart is failing,
and at 80 years old, he could go at any moment.” This sister then
went into the ICU and preached the Gospel to her father. She spoke
of salvation and the divine cure. She was so certain in it that she
left the room saying: “Dad is cured!”. The doctor came and
replied: “I respect this woman’s faith, but his case is
irreversible.” Her family became furious with her: “This is
crazy!” “Pure fantasy!”, but she wouldn’t take it back. She
stayed strong: “God has blessed Dad.”

One week later, the family met with
the doctor and heard him say: “I don’t know what’s happened, I
don’t know if it’s a miracle, but his heart, today, is the heart of a
20 year old.” What happened? Did the doctor make some kind of
error? No, but God confirmed the words of His servant, and the words
of the wise (the doctor is wise in his science) turned to nonsense,
as Isaiah declares in 44:25b.

It’s good to be God’s servant,
because He answers your prayers; but the the best will be on that
great day. Let’s look at the even greater blessing awaiting God’s
servants:

2
- “’Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been
faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.
Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Mt 25:21). Nothing
compares to what is reserved for God’s servants who remain faithful.

2b –
The apostle Peter understood that the greatest title he possessed was
that of a servant of Jesus Christ: “Simon Peter, a servant
and apostle of Jesus Christ,” that’s how he began his second
epistle, and that’s how we should present ourselves. Before we are
pastors, lawyers, sales people, homemakers, wives, or husbands; we
should be servants of the Lord.

May he bless you all, and may you
never forget that to be a servant of God is to obey His Word. Until
next time.

In Christ,

Jayme de Amorim
