Israel would get nothing from the country that enslaved them for so many years. Likewise, the saved who were taken out of the empire of darkness will never be helped by the submissive spirits of hell (Colossians 1.13). The worst thing that can happen to a deviant is when he seeks help from witchcraft, because he will be mocked by demons in every way, and after suffering so much, when he dies, he will go to their dwelling (1 Samuel 28.3-20; 1 Chronicles 10.13,14).
The Israelites were foolish, without mercy and love and despise the Lord, who had brought them out of captivity in Egypt and given them the good Promised Land. If the Christian delivered from the realm of wickedness returns to sin, or to the unclean spirits he served in the past, the work done to regenerate him will be like nothing to God. Mercy! He who strays from the Way suffers under the devil’s whip (2 Peter 2:20-22).
Today, the saved, free and ready to worship the Lord, should they turn to their former executioners, the result will be the worst possible. There is no way to leave the Fountain of Clean Water, get involved with the evil one, and succeed in life. The Word declares: For by means of a harlot a man is reduced to a crust of bread; and an adulteress will prey upon his precious life (Proverbs 6.26). Many have gone bankrupt because of this. Stop and ponder!
Why did the Israelites walk backward, when Egypt humiliated them and made them captive? Whoever turns away from the Most High draws near to the evil spirits, which were cast out of his life and walk through barren places without finding rest when he converted to Jesus. Then seven worse spirits return to that life, in order to afflict him great harm (Matthew 12.43-45). Stand firm in your faith in the Lord!
If the Israelites were quiet before God, serving only Him, nothing from the devil would strike them. Now, if Egypt had abandoned its gods, surely, it would never be said that Nebuchadnezzar would defeat God’s people. These gods were humiliated by means of the plagues inflicted on the Egyptian nation; however, even knowing the powerlessness of their idols, if they had turned back to God, they would have His help.
Why exchange the Lord for the firebrand of extinguished fire? A few years later, this led to Egypt being defeated by what would be the world dictator of those days. The person who makes a deal with the devil is in his hands unless he surrenders his heart to Jesus by truly converting to the Gospel. In the Good News, there is what you need to overcome the forces of darkness. Be victorious!
The evil one serves no fruitful purpose. That is why Isaiah cried out about it: Rahab-Hem-Shebeth. This lesson is Heaven’s direction to the saved: do not seek your former masters, for Jesus has dethroned the kingdom of darkness. With Christ, you will live and be blessed and set free!
In Christ, with love,

Lord, our Strength! Why did Israel exchange You for other gods, asking for their favor and seeking the former masters of slavery? The Israelites knew how to act like Your people, so that the enemy would no longer dominate them. Christ is the Way Out!
We do not need the futile help of the people dominated by idols. You are our Help, and when we call upon the Name of Jesus, we cancel every lie and wickedness of the devil. Therefore, we will never be far from You. Forgive us!
We want to be quiet in our faith, but brave in the hour of trial. In You, there is what we need most: love and power. With Your love, we can reach You and have Your care. With Your power we command evil to leave, and it leaves!
