But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will take him, that he may appear before the LORD and remain there forever.   1 Samuel 1.22

After giving birth to Samuel, Hannah cared for him with the zeal of a mother who made a covenant with the Lord to deliver him as a little boy to the tabernacle, so that he would be a faithful servant of God for life. Of course, Samuel only felt his mother’s love, not being old enough to understand such devotion, but for her, the boy was the sign that she would have more children and would never again be called helpless, rejected or barren. She filled her husband’s quiver (Psalms 127:3-5).

When we receive a mission from Heaven, we have to be alert in order to do according to the model presented. This is how the Lord instructed Moses: And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain (Exodus 25.40). It’s a privilege to learn from the Creator of Heaven and Earth how to do His work, and also a responsibility. Elkanah taught his family to fear God, and that made Hannah a mother. Believe!

The beloved of his heart preferred to devote herself to her son until he was weaned, and then, take him and deliver him into the hands of Eli, the priest. She showed that she had no resentment about being mistaken for someone drunk. Now she was happy that she had been answered by the Lord. Now, to struggle to give birth to a person who will be used by God is one of the highest privileges granted to a woman. It’s amazing!

The call to the ministry is unique, unequaled by anything else in this world. Whoever receives it should never change it, because he has reached the position of a minister of the Gospel of the eternal God. The greatest position a mortal can obtain is to have Him as his Head, as well as his Savior. The divine work needs people prepared to act as servants of the Lord.

After Samuel was weaned, Hannah would take him to Ramah, in order to present him before the Lord. Certainly, she was already thinking of the song that would be sung when she delivered her little one. Hannah was all happiness and humility! Her soul longed for the day she would leave the child to be taken care of by the man of God, returning home alone, but convinced that he would be the first of many children.

Unaware of the promise – which would only be fulfilled more than a thousand years after that day, when Jesus would reveal what happens to those who give something to God – Hannah gave her only son, reminding the Lord that He would also give His only begotten Son as a ransom for mankind: Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you (Luke 6.38). God honored her!

She had such faith and surrender to the Lord! Hannah proved to be the best mother in the world, as the Father would prove that He loved us so much as to give up His Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life (John 3.16). Be faithful and you will see the Almighty honoring you. Seek to know His will!

In Christ, with love,

Lord, You reward us! Find in us people who do Your will. Without a doubt, we will give You whatever is asked of us. Our soul rejoices to see You at work. You bring more to us than we give to You!

Hannah waited for the boy to wean, to prove that a mother's love was truly in her. Instead of wanting the child only for her joy, she wanted him for You, who would reward her with more children!

Blessed is he who believes in You! You will make him happy forever. By giving our best to You, Your reward will come. Hannah didn't think or say no, and as she settled the covenant with You, she kept her part!
