And Edom shall be a possession; Seir also, his enemies, shall be a possession, while Israel does valiantly.  Numbers 24.18

The land of Esau’s descendants would no longer be theirs, but the possession of other people, because of the wickedness they showed towards Jacob’s children. We must remember Esau’s defeat, which began in Rebekah’s womb, who was expecting twin brothers. Such pregnancy would bring her the happiness and joy she deserved. By means unknown to us, they fought in her womb. God said that the bigger, the stronger, would serve the smaller, and so it happened (Genesis 25.21-26).

As the years passed, when Jacob and the children born to him in the land of his kinsmen returned to his homeland, Esau still showed hatred in his heart, only appeased – after Jacob wrestled with God, as a prince (Genesis 32.22-32). However, Esau’s descendants and those who joined them tried to wipe God’s promise off the face of the Earth several times. Respecting the Lord’s plan is good for us!

Many people don’t realize that their bad attitudes will have repercussions on the future of the coming generations. Because he had sold his birthright, Esau could not complain about Jacob’s efforts to keep his blessing (Genesis 25.27-34). God knew the deal the two had made. Now, calling Jacob a blessing thief is very serious. After all, Esau could not receive his father’s blessing, since he traded it for the famous stew. Hunger made him despise his blessing!

Before judging anyone, one should remember the divine warning: He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears (Proverbs 26.17). I have heard people in the pulpit call Jacob a thief, and every time I hear or know that someone has said that, I shudder, because from the sacred rostrum should come only the message of the Word. Why should we get involved in cases that are not for us to decide, but only for the righteous Judge?

The promise is clear: Israel has the anointing to do great things. We don’t know the exact extent of this, but we can imagine that it works in everything they lay their hands on. No one will be able to stop this people from performing wonders. Those who go against them are wrong, for God avenges His people (Nahum 1.2). Imagine what the world will be like when the sons of Jacob recognize Jesus as the true Messiah. They will evangelize the world then. Glory be to the Lord!

The deeds of the heirs of God’s promise, after their conversion, will be the exact imitation of Jesus’ deeds in His days here. Whoever is wise should not try to catch a dog by the ears, unless he wants to be bitten by it. Leave all judgment to the Creator, whose plan cannot be stopped. Who is successful fighting against God? Surrender to Him who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

Where are the descendants of Esau? Only God knows. Where will Satan’s defenders and warriors walk? In the lake that will burn with fire and brimstone for eternity. Do not be deceived by the serpent. Only lies come out of the mouth of this vile being. Repent, and your sins will be erased, and you will be born again!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

Lord of irrevocable decisions! Living in disunity is bad. Esau did not mince his words, nor did his heart ponder about the situation. Father, he was not in the habit of seeking You and his parents, whom he should honor!

Help us not to be used by evil, distancing ourselves from You. The land of Edom became a possession, and its inhabitants were scattered all over the world, to the point that we don't know them and we don’t know where they are today!

The region of Mount Seir became a hereditary possession for your enemies. Those of the house of Jacob were used to carry out great deeds. May the example of submission to You be seen and understood by all. Your designs are always holy and clear. Praise be to You!
