And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.”Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” Luke 10.37

The Lord gave us examples on how to deal with every situation and showed, above all, the value of spiritual things. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, which tells the story of a man that had compassion for another who was attacked by thieves in the road from Jerusalem to Jericho, Jesus described our state and His love for humanity. This passage teaches us to rescue those who fell in the hands of the enemy, and are now suffering aggression from the forces of darkness.

This Biblical text shows us how to care for those who are “mutilated” in life, even if we don’t have any kind of relationship with them. We cannot pretend that we do not understand this teaching, because we are accountable for every lie and excuse we tell the Omniscient. We know who our neighbor is, whom we must help and heal. Therefore, let us do what He has told us, because certainly, people need to be taken care of

On his way to Jericho, the traveler had done nothing for the robbers to hurt and attack him. After this incident, he did not receive mercy from anyone: not even from the Levite and the priest that walked by. This portrays a person that just walks from Jerusalem – from church – without protection, and along the way is attacked by thieves. The guilt will be ours if we do not stop and help those in need. It is necessary to take him to a shelter and pay his expenses.

The Samaritan did not care about the prejudice in regards to his own people. When he saw an injured Jew, he was ready to treat him with love. It does not matter who we are helping, we must obey our Father. He is looking for people who can say ‘yes’ to His orders. Thus, in short time, those who are “mutilated” will notice that even their bills were paid fully. When you assist someone in his or her need, you do it to the Savior Himself.

We must work with the objective of expanding the faith in Christ. One way of doing this task is to look to the other person’s problem. This pleases God very much. Do not stand still just asking the Most High to do something for those who are dying and will lose their lives if they are not rescued in time. What the Lord has shown you has turned into your mission. Remember: there are many people “mutilated” by religious doctrines!

The Samaritan cared for that man as if he were his sibling. Before he left, he gave a good sum to the shelter’s owner, so that he would care for the wounded man. In case the value of the expenses were beyond what he gave, he would give the remaining part when he returned. This act shows that there is no price for saving a life. Focus on doing what is good and you will be rewarded. The Lord honored that generous man!

A person’s life is worth more than any activity that you may be doing, even if you are receiving a lot of money. The Foreigner that cares for the wounded and mistreated will give us back the expenses we had for helping in the recovery of another person.  Certainly, He is trustworthy and will not deny paying the bill. What do you seek for in life? To please God or Mammon?

In Christ, with love,

Lord, Foreigner with a good heart! Your Word teaches us to live as Your servants, loved by You. You teach us to help those who were “mutilated” by thieves and care for them. What better task could we receive? Thank You for loving us!

You have treated us from our wounds using wine – the blood of Your Son –, and oil, the symbol of Your Holy Spirit. The wounds were deep, and it took us a while to recover. Besides, everything we had was stolen. However, You have more than one money (Luke 10:35)!

When You return, we must present to You the “mutilated” fully recovered. Whatever was spent to heal them will be paid by the Owner of all gold and silver. Everything that we spend will be greatly rewarded by Him. May we obey the mission with gratitude for what You have done for us. Amen!
