So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 1 Samuel 17.48

For 40 days the Philistine giant was mocking at the army of Israel, and none of the Israelites wanted to face him, because whoever did so was to present themselves to God approved as a worker. David was the shepherd of his father’s sheep and was sent to see how his brothers were doing on the battlefield. When witnessing the challenge made by Goliath in such a ironic manner, that young man decided to avenge the Name of the Lord.

The Philistines did not expect the Most High to have prepared one of His servants to put an end to the menace against His people. The enemy is not omniscient; therefore, he has no idea concerning God´s purposes, until he sees them fulfilled. If we are under heavenly direction, we will win the battles.

Stand firm when the evil one comes against your life, casting temptations. The Almighty knows what the devil has planned to harm you, the strength he uses and how you must behave to defeat him. The Lord is never surprised. He knows the wicked one´s ability to overwhelm you and He is perfectly capable of annulling and destroying the attempts of the wicked king. 

When God uses us to defeat any hellish onslaught that comes against our lives or that of a person we are helping, we can be certain that victory will depend on the faith we employ in such a situation. If you are an observer, you will see that before evil touches you, you were warned during the ministry of the Word. The Most High tells us how He will operate in our favor. Therefore, pay attention when reading the Bible and listening to the preaching of the Word. 

The Philistine giant made a great mistake when he disregarded David, who would fight him with the shepherd’s staff and some stones in his bag. Goliath said, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” (1 Samuel 17:43). David felt that that was the moment to teach him a lesson, for he had been cursed by the giant in the name of his gods. Now, he who is a friend of a servant of the Lord has the promise that He will be his friend as well; but whoever is an enemy of God will have Him as his enemy.

The giant did not believe that that was happening to him; after all, for him who was a famous “hero”, it was humiliating to face a young man “without any common sense”. He was surprised to see that David hurried to come to him. This must be a characteristic of one who is lifted up by God. The servant of the Lord does not need to wait for the evil to come, but go out to destroy him immediately.

Now, if we have the heavenly Father by our side, why should we fear or delay in carrying out the work? The presence of God fills us with courage, giving us strength and ability to fulfill our calling. In fact, we just need to believe and act in the way that pleases the Lord. Thus, we will never stumble upon any obstacle. The victory will be of those who trust in the Almighty.
