who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:10

Peter the apostle speaks of Jesus as a cornerstone (v.7) chosen and precious. However, for those who stumble on the Word – the disobedient – Christ is the stumbling stone and the rock of offense (v.8). We know in Whom we have believed; therefore we must obey His instructions without thinking that one day we will be confounded. After all our faith is built on the Son of God and not in some made up god or in a pseudo prophet. To Him be all glory!

The Israelites are known as the builders of the work of God, but at first they rejected the Messiah of the Almighty (Psalm 118:22; Matthew 21:42). This way they committed an enormous error, for the Lord who had made a Covenant with Abraham the patriarch had come to solve all the trials tribulations and problems and yet those people did not accept Him. We that believe in the Savior, were approved by God to be the builders of His Church under the direction of the Holy Spirit, in accordance to the Holy Scriptures.  

Now we have become a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people (1 Peter 2:9) with the affirmation of the Lord of who we are and what we must do to please Him. Our election came from the throne of the Almighty, confirmed by His seal, to be a royal priesthood and work the divine will all the time.  We need not wait for special occasions to be rid of any error. We need but to confess it and accept forgiveness.

Being a holy nation, no contamination can prevent us from walking with the Lord, because there being no condemnation in us, we are pleasing to Him. Besides, as a people who were redeemed our mission is to announce the virtues of the One who called us from darkness to His marvelous light (Colossians 1:13). Therefore, we are unfettered from religiosities because we are a part of the Body of Christ. Nothing else separates us from God!

There is a great difference to be seen in us. In the past, we were not the holy people of the Lord but now we are. This means the following: we have to live the promises of the Almighty so that the lost can witness our testimony and may also want to serve God.  Leading us according to the word, God will always open His ears to our prayers. 

Before we heard the Gospel, we had divine mercy waiting to intervene in our favor. Today, we need not wait anymore because now as sons and daughters of God and co-heirs in the same inheritance that belongs to Jesus in His Father, we can claim this prerogative which already is ours. We must claim our rights in Christ. 

We have obtained mercy, forgiveness and all blessings acquired by the Lord in His death. Those who believe in the Scriptures and have accepted Him as Savior must push back any evil from their life, for they have become One with His Body. They must simply claim what is theirs in the Name of Jesus.
