29/05/2021 - THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Romans 8:26

The Holy Spirit’s greatest mission is to glorify Jesus, the Author and Consumer of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). For that to happen, the Spirit opens our eyes and leads us to walk in a worthy way, serving God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23,24). The Spirit knows when we are weak and rescues us, interceding for us. He is also the One who came to continue the work of Christ, according to our heavenly Father’s plan (John 14:16).

We have weaknesses that could harm the progress of the work of God and the growth of our own faith. How can man do things for God, who is complete, without being completely restored first? Even after we are inserted into the kingdom of heaven, we need help from the Most High to not move in a different direction than His. This happens when there is a radical transformation inside of us, and we become like Christ (1 John 3:2; 1 Corinthians 15:50-55). Jesus always followed His Father’s orders!

Without the Holy Spirit, we become easy targets to the evil one, without knowing how to react to his attacks. It is best to take refuge in the Lord. Besides eternal salvation, the Lord gives us total protection. Those who serve God don’t lack anything (Psalm 23:1); after all, they are members of the body of Christ and are connected to heaven forever! On the other hands, those who reject Jesus’ invitation, the come to me (Matthew 11:28), have no idea what they’re throwing away and how much the enemy will oppress them because of that. Be wise!

Not thinking about what you will ask from the Father is a mistake. Many times, even though we know what’s at our disposal, we live on shortage. However, we should take possession of the promises that have been prepared for us. We want the blessings, but we don’t spend time in prayer, seeking the face of the Lord. We live as if the Word were a lie and God didn’t fulfill it. It works the same way in both the material and spiritual worlds: those who seek will find (Luke 11:10)!

The Holy Spirit’s intercession is made with groanings which cannot be uttered when we pray. We won’t ever find out when He is working before the Father and we won’t know if something was solved or removed from our way. Most of the times, we can’t see the ways God opens for us. He is truly Omniscient!

One thing is certain: we can count on the assistance of the Holy Spirit, but we should never sadden Him. Just as Jesus comforted us, providing solutions to our matters, the Holy Spirit does the same. Remember that adversities are like opportunities for us to act in the name of Christ, proving we love Him (John 14:21).

Besides receiving comfort from the Holy Spirit, which is available to all who have been saved, Christians who have been baptized should exercise the gift of tongues for self-edification. When we speak in the tongue of the angels, or even in other earthly ones, we edify ourselves in a wonderful way and we are helped by the Lord!

In Christ, with love,

Dr. Soares

Lord, our Friend! Thank You for helping us, even when we don’t confess our faults. You know we are weak, and You give us Your Spirit to supply for all our needs, according to Your own will. To You be the glory!

We must learn how to ask, in order to have more of You. We must learn to do Your will as You’ve determined, because we know nothing good comes from our own. Our requests will be responded in an amazing way with Your help. To You be the praise!

We’re thankful for the Holy Spirit’s groanings; although we don’t understand, we know they are extremely important. May us always get things right, without being overly proud or taking credit for the works You do. Amen!
