“Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel.  Joshua 1.2

Sometimes, we don’t understand the fact that God directs His own work. We present ourselves before Him like people with no destination, crying because there has been a change of pastors in the congregation or someone who was really used by God went to Heaven. By doing that we sadden the Lord’s heart. The Omniscient always knows what needs to be done and how it needs to be done. This way, everyone is benefited by Him. Halleluiah!

Moses was rebuked by the Lord, because he stopped to pray instead of moving on.  The leader had decided to seek direction from the Almighty when he heard that the Pharaoh was coming to get the Israelites, which he himself had led out of Egypt by an order of God (Exodus 14:10).  They were at a point where escape showed itself to be difficult.  They all went through a valley, with high mountains on both sides and the Red Sea before them.  However, the Lord said they should not cry out any more to Him and ordered everyone to march (Exodus 14:15).  The best is to obey in faith.

In later times, Joshua probably bowed down in prayer, suggesting that Moses was something in the hands of God.  Almost everybody is afraid of the unknown, of what might be the consequences under their leadership.  Therefore, they even come to desire, that if Paul were here, everything would be different.  Now God used His servants in their days, but today He want to use us.  So we must continue to take hold of what is ours.

It would have been proper for Joshua to stand up and lead the people to march and enter into the Promised Land.  Jericho was a strongly armed city, protected by high walls, seemingly invincible. The divine works are far greater than those of the devil, which attempt to lead man to block the advance of the Lord.  If told beforehand, nobody would believe.  The strategy revealed to Joshua seemed a call to collective suicide, but it was the perfect plan. (Joshua 6:3-5).

When passing the Israelites through the Red Sea, divine hands were operating in minute details.  When Moses parted the waters, the Lord sent a wind from the east to open the sea, which was coming to meet them, and it was so strong that it separated the waters (Exodus 14:21).  However, although it was able to open and keep the wall of water as if made of rock, this was a gentle and polite wind, for it did not topple or knock down one child or older citizens.  What a terrific God!

Regarding Joshua, the Lord commanded him to rise, for he and his people would cross the Jordan River with their feet dry (Joshua 3:17), and this would happen during the rainy season, when the river overflowed its banks.  He should not keep mourning the death of Moses, who according to the Lord would never lead His people again.  No matter what is threatening you, fear not!  With God by your side, you will not stumble, nor will you lose the battle.  Believing is the secret.

Joshua would continue to carry out the mission, and for this he would have to be a real man and not fear any obstacles.  He had to learn to obey the Most High.  This way, he won countless battles in the task of settling the children of Jacob in the land given by the Lord.  Fulfill your mission and you will see that God was with you.

In Christ, with love,

God!  When we deserve something, You do not abandon us, but you do reproach us.  Then, having learned the lessons, You make us act as faithful servants. Don’t allow our lives to grow out of Your purpose.

We want to know You better and to know how You perceive us. To this end we ask You to examine our inner being, and as You see any deviation from Truth, like a tree doctor, please prune the branches that may cause us loss or shame.

Do not let us be guided by our feelings, by things that will lead us from error to error.  But in a way that only You know how, remove our thoughts from that which is undesirable and worthless.  We truly want to fulfill Your will as You plan.  Help us!
