Then it happened in the course of time, after the end of two years, that his intestines came out because of his sickness; so he died in severe pain. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning for his fathers. 2 Chronicles 21:19

Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, was a man that feared God greatly. But he did not teach his son, Jehoram, to obey the Lord and Scriptures, therefore, his heir did not prosper when his time came to reign. Christians must worry in teaching their relatives and friends to respect the Most High. If they do not convert, they can be used by the devil in a perverse way.

It is amazing how evil entered in the heart of the firstborn of Jehoshaphat. His father’s example meant nothing to him. Among the sons of Israel, he was one the worst of all times. There is no one who can look to a group of children and say that some of them, in a few years, will be become adults that are outlaws. However, if they are not saved, this may happen. Mercy, Lord!

Even though king Jehoshaphat did good things, he committed a serious mistake: to marry his son with the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, uniting with the house of Israel. This couple was responsible for leading the Israelites away from the Lord, exchanging Him for Baal, the false god, who was created by someone’s wicked imagination. Athaliah, daughter of Jezebel, managed to lead her husband into deception and destruction.

If Jehoshaphat had been wise, he would have sought divine guidance, and certainly, would not have chosen the daughter of the royal couple from Samaria to be the wife of his son. However, he did not think properly, so his family and the nation of Judah suffered enormously. Since Ahab did not show any love for God, he should have stayed away from him. After Jehoram sat on the throne, he showed whom he served, by killing his brothers.

It was said that Jehoshaphat was a good father. However, he acted like worldly parents, and not like a servant of the Most High, for he only desired the material well-being of his children. He left them a large inheritance, but did not teach the fear of God to them. Good parents should check if their children are seeking the Lord, or if they are going to church for other reasons. Those who do not obey God are lost, and certainly, serve Satan (Matthew 6:24).

Those who are not converted will never fear the Lord, and when any kind of opportunity comes, they won’t hesitate to do evil and follow the enemy. Without noticing, those who are subject to the devil cause many problems, to their siblings, neighbors, to the divine work, and finally, to themselves. We need to share the Gospel with all people (Mark 16:15), specially with our close relatives. Amen?

Elijah’s controversial letter came to the hands of Jehoram, but even so, he ignored it and carelessly continued in wickedness. Finally, he died as it had been prophesied about him. Be careful! Check and see who your children serve, because they could be condemned forever.

In Christ, with love,

God of justice and love! How was it possible that Your land, the kingdom of the North, Israel, and the kingdom of the South, Judah, left Your presence and did Satan’s will? The Israelites that were taken away from slavery in Egypt gave their backs to You.

Why did Jehoshaphat only think about the material well-being of his children, forgetting about Your warnings? Why did he marry his son to the daughter of the wicked couple Ahab and Jezebel? Why do so many people today only want temporary happiness?

Jehoram had an evil heart, which was contaminated by wicked Athaliah, and afterwards, he commanded his brothers to be killed! Why does someone surrender in such a way to sin and behaves so carelessly with the things they do? He did not want to listen to Elijah, and for that he paid a high price.
