14/04/2018 - THE SUGGESTION THAT TAKES DOWN

Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.  Genesis 25: 33

The carnal Esau did not think twice about selling his birthright. When he saw his brother’s stew, he soon wanted to eat it. Isn´t this how adulteries are originated? When an individual sees a beautiful person, he does everything to satisfy his carnal desires with that person. Then, you will pay a high price for that. The shame and other consequences of this act are not worth the illicit pleasure provided by infidelity. Do not settle down like the firstborn of Isaac!

Esau succumbed to the aroma that the stew exuded and wished to taste such dish. Look away from what belongs to others! Let the other enjoy what was prepared for him. Avoid greed, because what belongs to the other is his. Avoid looking with lust or envy at what belongs to your neighbor.

Jacob wasted no time. Perhaps his mother had told him what happened in her gestation and what God had told her about the brothers fighting in her womb. The patriarch of the Hebrews was waiting for payback time, when Esau asked to be given some of that stew. Upon seeing the chance to win back the birthright that had been taken from him by force, Jacob proposed the bargain.

By accepting the bargain, Esau became profane. According to him, what good would that right do him, if he was about to die? Well, no one dies just for waiting for a meal to be ready. Esau’s response showed that he could not be the one from whom the Savior would come. Many people see nothing more than just a chance to sin, but with such behavior, they become disqualified for eternal life.

To avoid any doubt, Jacob asked if Esau would keep his word on what they had both negotiated. It is always good to ask people if they understand what they are doing, so that they do not come back saying that it was not exactly what they understood and now, having met their needs, they deny what they said to be their will. Those who act in a clear manner cannot claim ignorance.

The Word says that Esau swore, saying that he was selling his birthright. And Jacob gave the bread and the lentils to Esau, and so he ate, drank, arose and went his way. Be careful not to delay the moment of establishing peace and making things right with whom you have harmed. If you eat and drink – finish doing the things of this life – and then get up and die, you will not have made amends.

The last part of verse 34 of Genesis 25 says, “Thus Esau despised his birthright.” He let the time for repentance pass, and when he sought repentance, it was too late. Be careful not to fall into temptation. However, if you sin, seek the one you offended and get right with him. Then, ask the Father to forgive you.

In Christ with love,

Lord! We must be careful about what we decide and speak, because You are our true Witness. We need Your love, not to fall into the bonds of the enemy. Help us to watch and pray!

The profane Esau thought only of the things of this world. So, when he had the opportunity to feed his body, he did not think twice. Isn´t this how people fall into temptation? Deliver us from the wiles of Satan.

After we listen to the devil voluntarily, the account will come, and we will have to pay for it. Thank You for settling our debt, but do not let us play with sin. Save us from temptation. Amen!
