When a saved person receives a mission to carry out God’s work, he has the power to solve problems. Moses was sent by the Lord to take the Israelites out of Egypt, but the king of that country would not let them go free unless the leader of the Hebrews showed that being, worshipped as a god, the power capable of breaking the hardness of his heart. The plague of darkness would be the penultimate one; still, Pharaoh did not let God’s people go free.
The ninth chastisement was painful because the Egyptians had never witnessed something that paralyzed them. Moses did not make decisions on his own initiative, but awaited the heavenly order to act. Similarly, we cannot go forward without the Father’s guidance; otherwise, nothing will happen. He waited for the divine order: that he stretch out his hand towards heaven. After fulfilling it, darkness came.
The shadows were so thick that they could be touched. This was a demonstration of the power of the Most High. Imagine how bad people got, because even breathing became difficult! This situation lasted for three days. Jesus descended into the kingdom of darkness, but the darkness made no difference to Him: Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You (Psalm 139.12). The Lord is tremendous!
The children could not even see their parents’ faces, the claustrophobics must have been sick, as well as the fearful and those with other phobias. The situation got so serious that no one left the place, not even the parents were able to assist their children nor the caregivers could help the sick. Imagine not being able to move around inside your house!
When Jesus returns, the situation will be even worse, for when people realize that they have run out of chances to pray, ask for forgiveness, or enter the group of the saved, the lost will despair, like the foolish virgins who didn’t bring oil and were therefore prevented from entering the wedding feast (Matthew 25.1-12). Think about it! Pharaoh was sure that nothing bad would happen to him, but he found himself in great trouble. Get right with God so that you don’t get lost!
The good thing is that there was light for the children of Israel. This did not happen by chance; it was a warning of what is to come upon mankind. The Egyptians were in darkness for three days. And you, how long have you been sinning, thinking that what the Bible warns will never happen? Take care of yourself, because after death there will be no chance to repent. It has never been easier to change your eternal destiny than now (Hebrews 4.16). Pray, confess, and God will forgive you!
Pharaoh did not make amends, because he believed that he was wiser than the Creator. Many people think so too, but when the Savior returns, there will no longer be the slightest possibility of salvation. This is the opportune time for you to come out of your error and be redeemed, by being washed in the blood of Jesus, sanctified in the Holy Spirit, and cleared of your guilt!
In Christ, with love,

Oh God! We want to be redeemed and walk alongside You. Your promises assure us of peace and salvation. Therefore, we take hold of what You have promised so that we may be delivered. We accept You as our Savior and Lord!
We sin by thoughts, words and deeds, consciously or unconsciously. Sometimes we have desire for the dirty outcome, even though we knew there would be consequences, but we repent and ask You to make us innocent of our guilt. Give us Your mercy!
We promise to be faithful in every way. We want to taste of Your goodness and Your love bestowed upon those who surrender to You. Cleanse us from the filth we have acquired by sinning, and give salvation to each one who cries out to You. We want to be an example of what You do to those who repent!
