I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. Revelation 3:18

The church in Laodicea is considered to be the apostate, the last to exist before the second coming of Jesus. Although there were many wrong practices in this church, Jesus warned them so that they would not be disqualified for eternal life. The counsel given to the leader of that house was so that he and his people would not be lost on the Great Day. Otherwise, if such thing happened, they would be condemned. But this is not God’s plan for anyone.

The angel of that church, the senior pastor, considered himself rich, and his people followed him in the vain pride of the religious philosophy that dominated them. Since they thought they lacked nothing, they stopped seeking the Lord. If they needed healing, they could pay for it; if it were pleasure, a filthy video would make them feel good; if they had any need, money would buy whatever they wanted. However, they did not have God!

The Lord’s message showed the real situation of those people in relation to eternity. That leader was a wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17). From the Lord he was to buy gold refined in the fire, to be truly rich. This pure gold was the understanding that would make the people overcome the temptations, triumphing over the demons and the evils produced by them. Then this church would be rich in the mercy of the Most High and assured in Heaven!

The leader should buy white garments in order to be clothed with the dignity that Jesus gave to His people. With this, he could succeed in everything and then participate in the victory feast to be held in Heaven. The important thing is not only to win in your day to day, but also guarantee your entry into the Kingdom of the Son of God. Whoever fails to take care of himself and is not clothed with the garment of holiness will have another fate.

If one does not have the bridal garments, though he may enter into the victory celebration of God’s people, he will be discovered and cast into the outer darkness. It is impossible to enter it without the proper garments. However, Jesus spoke of this possibility to show that the abiding in the Kingdom, without the necessary preparation, will not be possible. Therefore, only those who act accordingly will continue in it!

He did not have to buy the “eye drop” that anoints the eyes of the heart to see the divine will, but only to use it without any effort. In fact, all blessings, including prosperity, are not “deals” that God makes with people so that they can finance the evangelization of the lost. This is the duty of every Christian, whether rich or poor. World evangelization is what pleases the Most High the most. Do you take part in it?

How are you now? If Christ were to come at this moment, what would He say about you? Have you been striving to fulfill God’s purpose, or do you live as if Jesus will never come back to rapture His Church? Be careful not to worry about the issues of this world and get lost!!
