For through the voice of the Lord Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod. Isaiah 30:31

The Assyrian Empire ruled the world for 13 centuries and then fell.  After some time, it rose and soon occupied the countries around him.  It dominated these nations and ruined the imaginary gods of these regions.  They did not know the true Lord of Heaven and Earth.  The Assyrians expanded to the Northern kingdom and unfortunately, sadly defeated it (2 Kings 17:5,6).  The latter had been separated from the house of David, but remained with the name of Israel.

Around one hundred years later, Sennacherib became the King of Assyria.  This potentate committed his most terrible mistake.  He led an invasion against Judah whose king was Hezekiah, a servant of the Almighty, resulting in proof that the Lord is sovereign.  God gave the vain king of the enemy nation a lesson.  This way, all became aware that there is no way to rebel or debauch the Almighty and go unpunished.  

Assyria represented the kingdom of darkness.  It submitted the people to its authority for the pure pleasure.  However, when it rose up against Judah, she saw how bad it was to face a faithful servant of the Lord, for He will defend His people.  God had spoken to Abraham: I will be an enemy to your enemies and adversary to your adversaries (Exodus 23:22). Being his descendants by faith, we can believe and lay hold of this and all other biblical promises.  

It was a great peaceful night, when Sennacherib had already planned his invasion of the city of the Great King.  He would occupy Jerusalem in short time, but God had another plan.  An angel of the Lord was sent and killed 185 thousand of the best Assyrian soldiers (2 Kings 19:35). Hence, the presumptive monarch returned to his country humiliated.  One day, as he entered the temple of his god, he was killed by his own sons (Isaiah 37:38).

The violent empire was rendered into pieces, just as Isaiah had prophesied and never again threatened humankind.  Same thing happened to the kingdom of Satan, who can no longer subject us to his whims, for we are free from his clutches forever. The power of Hell against us was annihilated.  Now, we live in the Land of Liberty – the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.  Night has ended for us!

The voice of the Lord annihilated the kingdom of Assyria and we listen to and hear the same voice as we turn to the Sacred Book.  It has the power to heal our illnesses, make us conquer the kingdom of evil in all its attacks and give us the promised salvation.  This can all be considered as done, for when Jesus cried: It is done! (John 19:30), the devil was defeated.  Halleluiah!

Who has already heard the divine voice while reading the Bible or listening to the preaching of the Word, has the right instruction to be delivered from the threats of the devil.  Therefore, turn your Assyria to pieces.  If necessary, God will send you the same angel that destroyed Sennacherib’s army.  The Almighty is a Man of war! (Exodus 15:3).
