I sleep, but my heart is awake; It is the voice of my beloved! He knocks, saying, “Open for me, my sister, my love, My dove, my perfect one; For my head is covered with dew, My locks with the drops of the night. Song of Solomon 5:2

What happened with the Shulamite happens with countless others.  She represents the Church, and her Beloved, our Savior. Like the Shulamite, we have slept waiting for the presence of the Lord.  Nevertheless, she had a virtue: her heart was awake while she slept. Unfortunately it seems we do not have or have not developed this characteristic. Due to this we miss out on the visitations from God which certainly are a great loss, because He always comes to bless us.

We are most fortunate when we perceive the coming of the Lord and rush out to meet Him. Life without the divine touches does not reach the desired value. After all, what will we do if there is no wisdom in us and the capacity to fulfill our mission? We must be prepared to carry out this task in this generation. The greatest desire of the Almighty is to be in communion with us, so that we arrive at the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Shulamite recognized the voice of her loved one, but she lacked wisdom to open the door immediately. We do not know how long He knocked, but she did not act correctly, in spite of His insistence in knocking and calling her His sister, His friend, His wife and immaculate. He asked her to be quick because His head was wet with dew and His hair was full of the dampness of the night.

The Lord wanted to enter and to be in communion with her, because He was already in His Garden. Again He called her his sister and wife but her sleep prevented her from rising to meet Him. Often times, we undergo similar experiences without realizing the precious time we are losing. We must always be ready because we never know the time He will come. When this happens we will have no excuses.

Today, God invites us to meet Him in His Garden. He has gathered the myrrh and His spices, eaten the honey from the comb and drunk of the wine with His milk (v. 1). The banquet is ready but because we deem other tasks more important we lose this opportunity. The loss suffered when we allow our sleep or other things take out time is immeasurable.

If we had more moments in the presence of God, we would be more joyful and successful. To neglect divine instructions and orders and His invitation for us to be consecrated robs us of the power we would receive and other precious things we would have to carry out the divine work in a manner pleasing to the Lord.

The Lord will not remain forever knocking at the door. It is our duty to keep watch and pray, because we do not know the time of His coming. We have nothing more important to do than  to await His visitation. From now on watch for the coming of Christ!

In Christ, with Love,

God! The Shulamite lost so much for not having answered the knock of Your beloved Son. We must be prepared and open the door to have perfect communion with Christ.

Many voices call out to us in this world, but we only want to hear Yours. Your knock and calling must be answered immediately because undoubtedly it is a great privilege. Visit us Lord. Direct our steps!

We have a beautiful mission! With its fulfillment, You will be glorified. Teach us to act, speak and pray. Our greatest desire is to meet You, hear Your voice and talk about our love for You.
