But You, O GOD the Lord, deal with me for Your name’s sake; because Your mercy is good, deliver me.

Psalm 109:21

In the previous verses David numbers a series of curses that would overcome those who would stand up to harm him. His fear of God, as He considered The Lord above all things, made him cry out to the Most High. To the psalmist, if the Grace of the Omnipotent was with him, that would be enough. The same kind of faith is available to all those who are accepted in the divine family. It does not matter how many happen to stand up against you or the power they hold, if God is with you not even one sole plan from the enemy will prevail against you.

David prayed for the Lord to be with him because, this way, he would be successful in everything. Intercede likewise instead of moaning – having your heart loaded with hurt feelings and hatred – ask God to be with you. Make sure that having the Father by your side, the devil’s traps will never catch you up, the wishes of the bad people will be frustrated and their sharp tongue will not carry on being used against your life because the Lord will be in charge of everything regarding your honor. Those who have the unbeatable God besides them are victorious in everything.

He could not lack assistance because he was asking the Lord to assist him for His Name’s sake. That’s a quite strong prayer indeed. If, one day, you feel that by yourself you will not be answered you must take the alternative used by the psalmist. Nobody will ever lose any battle as they use what mostly touches the heart of our God, our Father – His Name. In this Name, Jesus kept all those the Father had entrusted in Him. The good news is that Jesus still keeps on sheltering, in the mighty Name of our Creator, His very Name, those who are entrusted in Him today.

Another important issue to take into consideration is the faith David put in the divine mercy. For the psalmist it was good. Try to meditate on how good and operative the Lord is to this divine attribute; as you behave that way you will also see coming up in your heart the necessary faith to cry out and be answered. The mercy of the Lord is good to accept you as His son, to comfort you, to deliver you from your failures and to strengthen you to the point of delivering you from negative thoughts that insist on saying that there is no way out. You must always remember that the mercy of the Lord is good and it has already been poured out onto us; it is good to perform the transformation we need.

When we ask our God and Father to be with us for His Name’s sake we do not mean we are doing so for something we might have done ourselves and, precisely for that reason, we deserve to be assisted, but we are using the strongest existent argument.

In Christ, with love,
