Her adversaries have become the master, her enemies prosper; for the Lord has afflicted her
because of the multitude of her transgressions. Her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.
Lamentations 1.5
Many people wait until things get really ugly before realizing they drifted far from the Lord. And that is exactly what happened to the elected kingdom of Judah. Gradually, they turned away from God and chose the path of temporary happiness, despite all warnings from the Almighty God through his prophets. When they strayed from God’s path, they were held accountable of their transgressions and taken into captivity.
The goal of the devil and his demons is to destroy the people of God. They look at us with hatred and want to take control of us at any cost. The enemy is willing to do whatever he can to remove us from God’s presence. If you do not open your eyes and examine the path that you are walking, sooner or later, you will be in the hands of Satan. So you must examine yourself and make sure you are standing fast in the faith (1Corinthians 16.13).
Our enemies are obtaining what the holy people of God should obtain—prosperity—because they have taken many people to their kingdom. And we, despite being filled with the Holy Spirit (the same Spirit of power with which Jesus was vested and that enabled him to work miracles), are not doing anything extraordinary. Our worship to God consists of whining, complaining and begging for help, while it should consist of a real search to deliver our generation from sin.
What the people of Judah did displeased the Lord. Do you think that today God is pleased when we watch soap-operas and dirty movies? Or when women on the streets wear skimpy clothes, dressing them in a manner that dishonors God’s creation? Or when we use bad language or say things to destroy our neighbor? Do you act in this manner? Beware! Judah was of the Lord, but he was disappointed at them nevertheless. So, instead of giving them happiness, God gave them sorrow. Brethren, life with Jesus is infinitely better.
Those people defiled themselves. When you give in to temptation and do something evil, you are breaking God’s commandments. He who lies or makes use of any questionable means to fulfill his desires becomes separated from God, and no longer enjoys fellowship with him. There is no use in crying and begging to the Holy Spirit—this person will no longer be used by God. So examine your behavior and repent today.
It is very sad that the people of Judah had to see their own children go straight into captivity before the enemy. Why should you continue sinning if, one day, before the coffin, you will despair? If you have defiled yourself, seek God’s forgiveness right now.
