Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!”
Job 2:9
Not everybody is worthy of our attention because if we heed them, they will do us a great harm. This may occur within our family, with close friends and in the church, including servants of God. In fact, if every man is regarded as a liar and the Lord alone is true, the best thing to do is not to pay attention to human advice, but rather to the heavenly Father.
Job’s saga is one of the saddest and yet most beautiful at the same time. Those who read it without paying attention to the details will blame God for having heard what the devil told Him. But the truth is that whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap (Galatians 6:7). Job was indeed blameless and upright; he feared the Lord and shunned evil. But without realizing it, he let the devil instill fear in his heart and that was the cause of all his misfortune.
A curse without cause shall not alight (Proverbs 26:2). If there is something wrong going on in your life, search the reason for it and if you find out that you gave the evil one a foothold for him to oppress you, make amends with the Lord and with whomever you have offended because this is the only way to close the door to the enemy. However, if you remain silent, your frame will weaken. The Bible says: He who covers his sins will not prosper (Proverbs 28:13a).
The suffering of the patriarch was intense. At first he did not understand what was happening. His wife acted like crazy when she told him to curse the Lord and die (Job 2:9). Some people believe that death is the end of suffering, but in many cases real suffering begins after one dies. What foolish advice! How could someone curse the One who gives him blessings? Job should have told her to examine herself.
From the mouth of the people who do not walk in the Spirit the worst advice may come out. So do not be tempted to seek help outside the Word. Only the Lord is able to provide real relief, because in addition to being holy, He knows all things and never tells us to do something that could cause us any harm. If only Job had heeded what the Most High said, he would not have let fear overwhelm him.
The weak should never give advice to anyone regarding God’s revelations; after all, a spring will never send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening (James 3:11). He who does not have the Holy Spirit cannot overcome temptations, therefore this individual will cause great harm to the person he intends to help. Even those who are in communion with God should only open their mouth when they receive a revelation from the Lord.
