Then King David went in and sat before the LORD; and he said: “Who am I, O LORD God? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?

I Chronicles 17: 16

The series of successful events presented on David’s journey has a lot to teach us. His struggles, tribulations and the operation of The Lord in his life which turned him into a much victorious man can be the same to all those who really serve God. Being aware of the fact that The Most High has no favourites (Romans 2: 11), anybody who listens to His Word will be equally qualified as those who were obedient to The Lord in the biblical times. Today, God expects us to serve Him just like those in the past did.

First, David was concerned about the Ark of the Covenant. Then, once he had IT he engaged in composing a psalm and then appointed Asaph and his brothers to stand before IT and to minister before The Lord regularly (I Chronicles 16: 37). That king fully understood how valuable praises to God are and how important and productive worshiping The Most High is to those who serve Him. That understanding can revolutionise the life of any member of The Body of Christ.

Then, the king said to Nathan – a prophet of those days – that he wanted to build up a house for The Lord because God had already helped him to build his own. I have seen that desire emerging in many people’s hearts nowadays. Some even strive to take a church to their district; others feel the urge to pay for the costs of the construction of a new temple. That proves that God knows how to take care of His work.

In verse 2 of I Chronicles 17 we realise that Prophet Nathan was hasty because he said to the king that he should do everything that was in his heart considering that God was indeed with him. That teaches us a lesson in that we are not to believe in everything someone who serves The Lord might tell us since we’re all pretty much likely to be deceived one way or another. The truth is that when we speak The Word under the anointing from The Lord He makes a commitment to fulfil IT; on the other hand, if we say something from our own reasoning He won’t honour us.

In that evening The Most High addressed Nathan saying that David would not be the one to build up His House, but made lovely and abundant revelations on what He was going to do for the house of that king. According to that report we understand that God was implying the work Jesus would perpetrate for us many years later as we’d be led into participating in His glorious plan of salvation. Now, with that understanding in mind, it’s crystal clear that the enemy might induce us into error particularly when the goal of God is much greater than his – and it always is.

David did not even put into question The Word conveyed to him by The Lord; he promptly accepted the divine determinations. Now, it’s a huge mistake not accepting the resolutions of The Most High since The Lord always knows what’s best for us. When He makes a decision it’s sensible to accept it, after all, doing the will of God will always be the right way to go for. When we fulfil the divine commandment the heavenly power stays by our side so it’ll keep and use us.

On account of the decision of The Lord David declared to Him that he was thrilled (verse 25). Those who really belong to God don’t go weeping when the divine purposes happen to go against their own, instead, with joy they say: “Amen to them!” Therefore, the right thing to do is to always fulfil the sovereign will of our Father.

In Christ, with love,
