Till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, he did not know it would cost his life. Proverbs 7.23

Man needs to choose whom he will serve. On one side, there is the tempter, owner of the wide door, who is always inviting you to “enjoy” life with all his charms and temptations. After all, your days are short. On the other side, there is the Spirit of the Lord, who warns you of dangers and shows you the advantages of serving God and preparing yourself to eternal life (Mt 7.13).

In Proverbs 7.7, the Bible tells of a young man without understanding, which represents every person who is led by a temptation. The evil schemes are so serious that every person who seeks to do good should pray immediately whenever they face them. Every temptation is a perfect work sent by the kingdom of darkness to captivate those without understanding and lead them to the slaughterhouse. Whoever listens to it will pay a high price.

When the devil tempts, he strikes a person’s weak point or an immediate need. He prospects, calculates, and prepares everything for his victim to feel like someone different, who sees a reason to accept his proposal. However, after doing what the enemy wanted, the deceived victim feels like the worst person in the world. Whoever does not listen to the divine warnings will realize that he has acted as a madman.

The charms of the adulteress should not be heard (Pv 7.10)! Joseph of Egypt, for example, told Potiphar’s wife that her husband had entrusted him almost everything in his house, except for her. He also said that if he yielded to her request and slept with her, he would be sinning against God (Gn 39.7-9). All people with good sense should have this same thought in their hearts. Whenever a concealed or explicit invitation is made for you, it should be promptly refused.

The enemy has prepared his arrow and will shoot it against your life if you make yourself one of his targets. Then, the evil arrow will strike your liver, your feet will be stuck in the snare, and you will be slaughtered (Pv 7.21-23). Now it is time to turn back on the bad decisions that you might have already taken. The Lord has the power to set you free from any snare that may have captured you. Therefore, make the right decision.

Someone said that we cannot prevent a bird from flying over our head, but we can prevent it from making its nest on it. God is looking into your heart to see what will be the attitude that you will take.

Do not enter through the wide door, for it will lead you to perdition. The narrow door is open. If you go through the narrow way, you will reach the Lord’s favor. Thus, why experiment the enemy’s hatred if you can enjoy the love of God?

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
