And when the king asked the woman, she told him; so the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, “Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now.

II Kings 8: 6

You are never to believe that what a man of God did for you is all that is to happen because his anointing remains upon your life forever and, even in an odd manner, it might assist you in other situations. The gifts of God are irrevocable and sufficient for the whole work to be done.

Once The Lord had delivered Samaria from a huge famine – on account of the oppression of the Syrian army which had besieged that town and, as a result, it did not allow anybody to come in or out – Elisha gave a prophecy to a Shunammite woman by saying that she was to leave the town and to go far away because God would call for such a famine that would endure for seven years. As far as we know nobody has ever heard anything else from that story in that nobody managed to escape from there.

As she came back to the Philistine lands where she would find refuge in obedience to The Word of the Prophet, the Shunammite woman found her land broken into. On account of that she went to have a word with the king. When she arrived, Gheazi, Elisha’s disciple, having been called by the king, was speaking about the works perpetrated by the Prophet. As he was telling about a young boy who had been raised Gehazi gazed at the woman and then said to the king that she was the mother of the young boy risen by Elisha.

The king asked her to tell him what had happened. The woman told him everything and that monarch sent for an officer along with her and then said: “Make sure she is restored all that was hers and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now”. That bit of news came up so unexpectedly: even all the proceeds of the field would be restored to her. The Prophet’s anointing was upon her to act even in the outcome of her attitude of believing in The Word given by that man of God.

Now, she was that lady who was used to watching the Prophet as he frequently passed by her house. She lived in The Spirit and that is why she sensed Elisha was a true man of God. So, she suggested her husband to prepare a room for that servant of The Lord to have some rest in there. So, in return, the Prophet blessed her so she was able to have a child even though her husband was old. She believed and God honored the Prophet’s prayer (II Kings 4: 8 – 17).

Soon afterwards the young boy died. Then she left home determined to find that man of God without saying a word to anyone else. To her husband and to anyone who asked her how things were she replied: “It is well.” In fact, her business was with God through His servant only. Elisha then made her company all the way back towards her house and for the young boy to rise he stretched out himself twice on his body who then sneezed seven times, then opened up his eyes to be fully restored to his mom (II Kings 4: 18 – 36).

The lesson we learn here is the following: a servant of God used to bless you leaves upon your life his anointing. Therefore, whenever that happens, you are neither to despise it nor have any other feeling for him except that he keeps on being a holy man of God who will be used for other works, even greater ones. If necessary, the anointing that The Lord has granted him will make your blessing thorough.

In Christ, with love,
