Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, or go up to the comfort of my bed; I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.

Psalm 132.3-5

God had a good reason to say about David what he did. After all, when David found out what God wanted from him, he turned the Lord’s will into his passion, seeking and finding what the Lord had showed him. Do not miss the opportunity to obey the Lord, because doing the work for which you have been called is a great privilege.

David’s attitude towards the Lord, as well as his work and call made of him a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13.22). By saying that of the son of Jesse, the Lord is revealing us a secret: he wants to say that about us too, and he will, if we keep his commandments.

The shepherd of Israel did not think twice after hearing from God what he had to do. For David, whatever God wanted him to do would become a real passion. In fact, the description in the verses of Psalm 132 shows how much David valued God’s commandments. We should not pay any less attention to the personal commandments that the Lord gives us, because he who loves God will be loved by him by the same measure.

As soon as David saw it, he started to look for the place; and then he found what he had seen, so God’s plan was fulfilled. The Mighty One will never entrust you with a mission you cannot accomplish. So whatever is the task he has given you, remain steadfast and strive to achieve it; and when you finally fulfill your mission, you will find out that making the Lord happy is worth it. Rest assured that the Lord will help you carry out the mission he has given you.

Foolishness makes some people disregard God’s will because they believe they know what is better for them. But the Lord would never command us to do something that would not add great value to his works. And no one is better than you to accomplish the mission you have been entrusted with. Nevertheless, when a person despises God’s commandments, for any reason, he is despising his blessing, and will regret it when it is too late.

God is pleased at those who obey him. On the other hand, his heart is not happy when someone fails to take heed to his words. Those who act in this manner will see other people being raised for the work of God. But where will those who are in rebellion spend eternity? What will happen to those who have hindered the work of God? I would not want to be in their place!

We must strive to carry out the mission with which the Master has entrusted us. And, in addition to the privilege of helping God to do his work, those who are obedient to God will be called blessed (Luke 11.28).

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
