In the meetings of Elijah, God’s servant, with King Ahab, the prophet always spoke and dealt the cards; as it should always be, for the Most High would not send us on a mission where a lost man would speak and we would do nothing. When Paul was evangelizing the proconsul Sergius Paulus, a certain Jew, a magician, a false prophet, named Barjesus, resisted the apostle’s message. But, using his authority, Paul rebuked him and made him blind (Acts 13.6-12).
Being with Elijah for the second time, Ahab called him an enemy and a troublemaker, and received a reply that he, the king, was the one troubling the nation. The Scriptures say that God raises up and sends out intrepid believers to take His Word everywhere: The evil man goes running away when no man is after him, but the upright are without fear, like the lion. (Proverbs 28:1). The timid could not be part of Israel’s army (Deuteronomy 20.8). Praise the Lord!
On the third occasion together, Elijah would prove to the people who the true God and Lord was. So, they all cried out after the prophet’s prayer: Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!” (1 Kings 18.38,39). They believed!
The evangelist has the power to perform the same wonders as Jesus, because he represents the one God (John 14.12). In any place, he needs to know his position before the Most High. When he feels the divine touch leading him to do something phenomenal, he must determine at the same moment to accomplish the work. This will make the lost understand the difference between the Lord and the demons that act in the world deceiving people.
The servant of the Lord must understand that he is His ambassador on Earth; therefore, he has authority from heaven (2 Corinthians 5:20). The prophet was not afraid of the reputation of Ahab and Jezebel, his wife, as murderers. This couple supported Baal worship and, as a result, the Israelites distanced themselves from God to the point that years later Assyria invaded the nation and took the best citizens of Samaria captive (2 Kings 15.29). Sad end for a people who loved Baal!
After having “terminated the situation” by destroying the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of the idol-post, Elijah took over authority in that place and ordered Ahab to go up, eat and drink, because there was already the sound of a great rain. There was no sign of it, but the prophet’s ear heard such a presage. In the same way, if God tells you something, never be afraid to speak up, because it will come without a doubt. Pray and believe!
Elijah had brought a drought that lasted three years and six months. But at that moment he would bring back the rain, and with it, life (James 5.17,18). Our ministry is to lead to life those who believe and those who do not trust in the Savior are destined to die. Begin to consecrate yourself in prayer and in Bible meditation. You will grow, and God will entrust you with a good work.
In Christ, with love,

Lord of abundant rain! We are thankful that You have made us ministers of the New Testament, in which the lost find salvation, deliverance, healing, and a solution to their problems. All was fulfilled by Christ in His death, that You might be glorified through our ministry of good!
What Ahab saw that day made him tremble before You. But, unfortunately, he still stubbornly refused to serve You, so his seed was destroyed. We pray for those who know that the Truth is Jesus, but prefer to live as if this was meaningless history!
Look at us and help us to obey You. May the thorns of life - the fascination of riches, the cares of life, and the ambition for other things - never be seen in us. We long to do Your work so that all may find You!
