For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:8-10

Due to Adam’s fall, we are born in the darkness which means that those who have not been born again will do what the spirit of error leads them to do. Because his nature is connected to the kingdom of evil, the devil inspires people to sin whenever he wants. Nevertheless, a question is posed: are we accountable for what we did before our conversion? The answer is yes and no. Yes because God has endowed us with a conscience and we know whether what we do is right or wrong. No because he whose nature is overpowered by darkness is pushed into walking in the path of wickedness.
From the moment we are born again, we become children of the light. Now, it is no longer the spirit of evil who leads us but rather the Spirit of the Lord. However, God does not force anyone to follow Him, after all He endowed us with free will and we have to choose what path we want to tread. It is true that salvation delivered us from our bondage to sin and from the power of the evil one, but the enemy can still tempt us. So, it is up to each one of us who truly love the Lord to say “no” to iniquity.
The Father expects us to walk as children of the light, which means that wherever we are we must be aware of our responsibility of walking as children of The One who has no darkness in Himself. To be children of light is a privilege as well as a responsibility, which is why we cannot give in to the devil (Ephesians 4:27). The evil one tempted Jesus but was not successful because the Master stood firm in the Word and did not yield to Satan’s onslaughts (Matthew 4:1-11). Therefore, in order to achieve the same success as the Lord, we must act in the same way.
The children of light are new creatures and therefore they do what is pleasing to the Lord because they know what the Word of God declares.
Even when something seems to be what they consider best for themselves, they never accept what the Scripture condemns. The Savior promised that those who abandon all things for His sake and for the sake of the Gospel will inherit eternal life (Matthew 19:29).
Nothing compares to what we are in Christ. Our new identity gives us supremacy over all the desires of the flesh and all temptations. What dominates and destroys the unsaved also tempts us, but however strong a weapon formed against us might be in judgment, we shall destroy it (Isaiah 54:17).
The children of light have rights in Christ that will make them winners in all battles, but it is necessary that such powers are exercised in the name of Jesus.
In Christ with love,
