Therefore “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”  “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty.”

II Corinthians 6:17-18

The Lord God gives us some orders and makes many promises in these two verses. However, none of them was given by chance or out of some evil purpose. All instructions given by the Lord are for our own benefit. Here is a list of orders and blessings to those who follow the divine guidance.

Come out from among them – the Lord wants His children to be far from the lost. This does not mean we should avoid them, but we must not join them in their evil deeds. We need to understand that we have to take the Good Word to them, bear witness to the Truth and intercede for them with love and with all our strength. However, we should never join in with them, doing business or marriage partnership! 

Be separate – He who did not obey the Word, fell in the webs of the evil one and joined him, must pray in order to depart from him. However, as this separation must be made by the Lord, do not rush to make any decisions. Pray and let God do His work. Many who got married to unbelievers, for example, are going through bad times. But that\’s no excuse for divorce; the best thing to do is to pray for your spouse to convert.

Do not touch what is unclean – That which religion uses as something seemingly harmless has in itself the devil’s ability to oppress people. None of Satan’s ceremonies are worth your participation or help. So, wisely show your friends and relatives the evil that exists in things not covered in the Word and do not join them in these practices.

I will receive you – Being received by the Lord is the prize awarded to those who obey Him. Those who do not have this privilege will not know how wonderful it is to be embraced by the Master, visited by the Holy Spirit and have their prayers answered. Those who are not received by the Lord are vulnerable to the enemy\’s onslaughts. Strive, abandon everything that is contrary to the Lord’s instructions and He shall receive you.

And I will be a Father to you – There is nothing better than having the Almighty as our Father. But this is more than a declaration. What the Lord is saying is that, in fulfilling His directions, we can be sure that He will not deny us any favors because if even being evil, we give good gifts to our children, how much more will the Father? (Matthew 7:11).

You shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty – There will be no barrier to separate you from the Lord. As a child, you are an heir, so all things that the Lord has belong to you and as result you will be very successful in all things. You must know that by being a son or daughter of the King, you participate in the divine nature.
