24/01/2023 - COVENANT IN THE LAND OF MOAB

These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He made with them in Horeb. Deuteronomy 29.1

God made two covenants with the Israelites, in which He created laws and procedures. Those saved by Jesus are part of the New Covenant, which is eternal, called the Law of Liberty in Christ Jesus (James 2.12). No saved person should try to obey the Law of Moses, because the Son of God fulfilled it for us (Romans 10.4). But we must examine both the covenant made at Horeb and the one made in the fields of Moab, in order to know how to act in the New Covenant!

The covenant of Moab was not a repetition of what had been revealed, but its complement, highlighting important details worthy of a particular and good study, which we will not do now. We will comment only on verse 4, which reads: Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day (Deuteronomy 29.4). Moses’ veil was over them (2 Corinthians 3.13-15).

The ability to understand His will and to get the answers to our questions comes from the Lord. So, we need to pray that He will speak to us through His Word, and then we can rest about what we ask. As we meditate on the Word carefully, we see the solution very clearly. Whatever you need must be asked for in the name of Jesus (John 14.13).

The Israelites had spent 40 years in the desert, in the largest “university” of the universe. The lessons were given day and night. They were practical lessons that Moses received from God after crying out to Him before the people. Once, the sister of this servant of the Most High rebelled against his leadership and was rebuked by the Lord and suffered a severe penalty (Numbers 12.1-15).

Often, trouble comes from where we don’t expect. Imagine: the man of God’s own sister was used against the ministry he received from the Most High. Moses, having already become a widower, married an Ethiopian woman. Miriam and Aaron did not take well to this and spoke against God’s chosen one. The outcome was disastrous. The Lord took the defense of His servant, rebuking his brothers, and Miriam became leprous (Numbers 12:1-15).

The Jews did not understand Jesus because of the veil that Moses wore when he came down from Mount Horeb. This was because no one was able to see him because of the divine glory shining on his face. He was with the Consuming Fire and therefore had to wear a veil over his face. Many Israelites throughout the centuries have already accepted Jesus and been saved. The day will come when the veil will be taken from them, and then the rest will convert!

The important thing is the New Covenant established in the blood of Christ. Whoever receives Christ into his life obtains the forgiveness of his sins and begins to walk with Him. In the future, the Jews will convert and be a great blessing to the Earth. Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel: Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, the remnant will be saved (Romans 9.27).

In Christ, with love,

Lord of the remnant! Your promise to Abraham to save his descendants still stands. It is revealed in the physical and spiritual realms. Those who come from the patriarch by the flesh must have their eyes opened to be saved!

We are not jealous of this; on the contrary, we pray that they will be rescued and filled with the Holy Spirit. The battle of evangelism will have the participation of these brothers of ours. Their momentary loss was a gain to us!

The future will be glorious for those who believe in Jesus, of that we have no doubt. So we must do our part in evangelizing our generation, for that will please the glorious Father. We pray: Maranatha - come Lord Jesus!
