Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.

Deuteronomy 7: 26

The Israelites were banned to adopt several practices of the surrounding lost peoples such as producing, owning or worshiping images and sculptures. This sort of worshiping is one of the abominations not tolerated by God considering that it prevents Him from keeping us away from the devil. Therefore, those who challenge The Lord – either by ignorance or provocation – shall pay too high a price because the divine hand will not deliver them from the devil.

Just like the people of Israel if someone doesn’t listen to the divine commandment and – even in a concealed manner – happens to have an idol whatsoever will ultimately be cursed indeed. By the way, this also takes place in our times. Those who get involved with idolatry are bringing a curse upon themselves considering that any sin is just like a door which is opened to the devil to break into the lives of those who practice it. Therefore, my advice is for you never to give room to idolatry and you must never be carried away by those ungodly practices condemned by The Word of The Lord.

Even with all the understanding that the people of God have been receiving through The Scriptures still there are some people – many of them renowned for their special attributes – who deem themselves Christians but they’re actually idolaters or, they happen to engage in some practice being altogether offensive to The Most High. Bearing that in mind, you ought to keep an eye out not to fall into the temptation of worshiping preachers because The Lord is a God of righteousness, He’s a zealous God and He fulfils His Word and, therefore, any evidence of your looking down on the divine directions will cause you to be punished as you deserve.

Our praise, respect and our worshiping are to be only consecrated to The Creator of Heavens and Earth considering that He doesn’t allow anybody else to receive what is due to Him. He’s The Only Lord, a unique and true God; that’s the reason why our worshiping is to be perpetrated in Spirit and Truth (John 4: 23, 24). Therefore, you’d better take care so you won’t fall into the devil’s trap of carving a sculpture which would ashamedly try to represent The Most High or those He used in the past.

It’s true that we must pay respect to those who rule upon us in The Lord considering that they’re worthy of double honour; yet, they must never receive any veneration or praise. Those who go beyond The Scripture are actually provoking the divine wrath and, thus, they’re giving the destroyer free access to mess up with their lives. Today, many people are being affected by evil powers because of their lack of wisdom for disregarding our Father’s determinations.

Instead of worshiping those who assist us in our faith we have to pray to our God and ask Him to reward them for the goodness they’re causing us. Nevertheless, if any one of them – on account of any weakness of theirs – happens to show an evil desire of being worshiped, even slightly, we’d better cry out for them to understand that The Lord is the one who is using them as a blessed instrument.

Clean your house – cleanse your heart – from any abomination and make sure you’re not turning your spouse, your son or your grandson into an idol! Don’t swap The Most High for anything! Be careful not to be accountable for anybody’s fall! God shall give every man according to his works either good or evil (Psalm 62: 12).

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
