Moses, God’s man and Israel’s great deliverer, let himself be taught by his father-in-law, who showed him how to share the burden of counseling people and solving the daily problems that arose in the journey to Canaan. We must pay attention to the examples registered in the Bible, for they are superior to those of the world. Human teachings are in no way similar to those found in the Scriptures.
We don’t know why God didn’t speak this directly to Moses, but even though he was the leader of the Israelites, he yielded to his father-in-law’s instruction and separated the people into groups. We have to examine how those we lead are, our children, and the other people who work along with us, so that we never have to think that our actions were in vain. Many will fail to pay proper attention to instructions, but as long as we act in faith and love (Philippians 2:14-16) – we don´t have to worry about this.
When he took over the kingdom from his father David, Solomon used some of his time to teach his servants how to sit down, stand up and treat people. The Queen of Sheba expressed herself this way: Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness (1 Kings 10.9).
Even though there was no paper, typewriter, computer, cell phone, or other modern gadgets in Paul’s day, he worked hard to indoctrinate the Christian church, using letters with accurate information, so that the saved would not miss the target. We must take advantage of the available media to evangelize and indoctrinate the new converts. Thus, they will serve Jesus too.
Workers are our calling cards, for the way they dress, pray, live and act will influence what people will think about us. Nobody obeys by hearing shouts, but rather, knowing that their leadership serves God. The leader has to be the servant of all, so that Jesus is seen as the Truth. If we live outside the biblical guidelines, how will we win lives? We have to snatch them out of the fire, as the Word says (Jude 1:23).
There will come a time when people will reject sound doctrine: For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear (2 Timothy 4.3). From what we have seen, that time has already arrived. But if we stand firm in sound doctrine, we will see many who have gone astray find their way to Heaven again. We need to do this in favor of all, and I believe that we will do it by faith.
David’s young ambassadors were instructed to go to Nabal, in Carmel, and start the conversation in a nice and friendly way; our conduct must always be like this. They should mention David’s name, because as God’s envoy, he felt responsible for the flock placed under his care. You will be responsible for whomever the Lord allows you to meet.

Father, God of wisdom and guidance! We would live much better if we practiced Your teachings. In fact, it seems that we have not given You the proper respect, for we are almost always directed not by Your Word, but by what we think is best for us.
We need to enter Your school, as Solomon's servants did. Then our deeds will be to Your praise and Your honor. Our life has to demonstrate that You love us, and the lost too, so that they may participate in the Good News.
We must learn and teach others every lesson from You. Only then will Your servants live well and the lost will desire to have all that You have given us. Thank You for loving us as a true Father. Guide us, Lord!
