Nothing happens by chance, but by obeying the Lord. Every year, Elkanah went with his family from Ramah to Shiloh to fulfill his vow and to sacrifice to the Most High. Not only did he take this seriously, but he also taught his children how to act before the law of the Lord: to obey. Unfortunately, many genuinely saved families don’t bother to give their offspring the example in matters related to the Father!
The outcome: the children become naughty in the faith and differ little from the lost. Some even exceed them in sinful practices. Now, we have to defend them from the world’s teaching, obtained in schools, because nowadays immorality is ministered by those who should be the standard of good behavior. Things are getting difficult, and if the saved in Christ do not teach their children to fear God, they will see them in the most depraved errors.
Modernism today is nothing new. The great civilizations of the past fell because of this very thing. Under a strong government, the nation prospers, but at the same time, as things get easier, the citizens turn to iniquity. Christians need to examine what is happening in classrooms, where teachers teach that it is okay to have sex before marriage. Take care of your children, or they will be lost!
In the same way, it’s necessary to warn them about pornography, since on the Internet, many claim to be “masters” of this subject, but are nothing more than corruptors. Some time ago, this would have led to rigorous prosecution and a severe penalty, but nowadays it is laughable for those who have not even left childhood. It’s a real crime that the authorities turn a blind eye to this, as well as to the encouragement of gender ideology. Mercy!
Elkanah led his entire household on a journey that took almost one entire day, on foot or on the backs of donkeys. Until then, horses were not known in Israel, and this only came about when Solomon reigned. It was customary to gather several families for the journey, because of hyenas, wolves and even lions. The wealthier ones used donkeys and the others went on foot. Elkanah’s family consisted of two women and four children. Every year they went to the feast.
Education in the faith in the Lord was daily, as Moses had taught: And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates (Deuteronomy 6.6-9). They took faith seriously!
Elkanah was a man who made vows to God, and every year he went to fulfill them in the tabernacle of Shiloh. His family had learned from an early age to fear the Lord, following His commands and doing what was pleasing to Him. In that atmosphere of faith, Hannah saw that although the other wife had more children, the Father was enabling her to have one that would surpass the others! Believe and live!
In Christ, with love,

God of our vows! We can learn many things from our brethren who served You in the Old Testament church, for they were dedicated to You. May such teachings serve the whole Body of Christ! Even though we live under better promises, we are no better than they were.
To whom much is given, much more will be asked, and this should concern those who fear You. With today's facilities, we always find excuses for not fulfilling the duty that weighs upon us. Help us to serve You in spirit and in truth.
We must know how to manage our home; otherwise, our children will not be admitted into the eternal Kingdom of Your Son, our Savior. This is very serious. Your people need to understand that You help those who wish to obey You. Make us Your faithful servants!
