Then David spoke to the LORD the words of this song, on the day when the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.

II Samuel 22:1

Have you ever thought of offering a song to the Lord? Well, few people think of doing something like that. Many are delivered from a bad situation but do not remember to give thanks to God for His wonders. They do not know that many times, at the moment of victory, the enemy plants in them the seed of defeat. There is nothing that saddens our hearts the most than ingratitude; the same happens to God. In Luke 17:12-18 Jesus inquired about the other nine lepers who had been healed when a Samaritan returned to thank Him. The others should, at least, have said “thank you very much!”

I like to meditate a lot on what David did. He knew what needed to be done and he would not spare any efforts to fulfil his duty readily, and that is the reason why the Most High was always happy with him. My brother, may the Lord rejoice over you too because His joy is your strength (Nehemiah 8:10b). On the other hand, if you make Him feel sad, you will have no strength at all. Just picture this: the Creator of this huge Universe has such a tremendous capacity and yet He remembers you and me. You can be certain that He keeps us under His scrutiny twenty-four hours a day.

There are many prophecies in this wonderful psalm which David composed and through which he spoke to the Lord. David’s enemies were not few but none of them remained standing on their feet because God delivered His servant from all of them. That is a revelation to us. Although the demons that deviate us from the Way might be many, God is powerful to deliver us from them. Therefore do not be sad if you have been tempted because that happens to everybody. If you fall for a sin you must repent and seek the divine forgiveness; so rise and be that person in whom the Lord’s soul delights.

David had quite a serious problem: Saul’s envy towards him. That king tried to murder him but the Lord did not allow that to happen. If you are facing a similar situation at work, in your household or in any other place, you must know that the God that delivered David from the hands of Saul, who had allowed himself to be used by the devil, will also be with you and He will deliver you from the hands of all your enemies.

Now, take this advice from someone who has already been helped by the Lord: when you are in communion with the Most High and you happen to feel that you need a special blessing, do not have a limited mind and do not be shy. At this point, if God’s promise is offered to you, you must claim for it; then be steadfast and believe that the Lord will grant you such gift. Many times I was helped out that way. The songs that I have written, for instance, come up because of the prayers I say during my communion with our beloved Father.

In short: The Lord, our God, is infinitely capable of doing much more than what we think or ask (Ephesians 3:20), so do not think small! And let the Father use you so that other people will also be blessed.

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
