“Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.” (Acts 6:2)
Doing the work of God must be like breathing for a Christian. That’s the most desirable thing in the world because failing to cooperate in the work of the Lord is sheer foolishness. What’s the best thing men can do? Since there’s no doubt about the existence of a Creator, the best choice is to fulfil His will because we’ll all be standing before our Father one day and we’ll be taking responsibility for what we’ve done with the life He gave us, the gifts He bestowed upon us, and the opportunities we’ve been granted but wasted.
The ministry of the Word of God is the greatest of all and when we preach the Gospel we’re are allowing the Lord to use our mouth as His instrument. Most assuredly, He looks after the vase He uses and rewards it. Oftentimes, when I’m ministering the Word from the pulpit or directly to an individual, God gives me the answers related to the very things I need to know at that moment. If there is something worthy a man can wish for, such thing is the ministry of the Word of God. Nothing can be compared to the privilege He gives us to convey His message.
Our service for the Gospel is compared to salt which gives flavor (Matthew 5:13) and it prevents our community from being corrupted. If the world hasn’t still been completely consumed by fire it is because of those children of God whose lives are consecrated to preaching His Word on the altar and who never grow tired of talking about the divine love. Other jobs or careers are also important: the garbage collector who cleans the streets and collects litter; the farmer who sows the seeds that will be our food; the doctors who do an amazing job, among so many others – however, the most useful duty a man can perform is to preach the eternal Word of God.
Undoubtedly, those who spend their time and talent and do whatever it takes to preach the Gospel will be richly rewarded. Think about it! Considering that a man’s soul is worth more than any worldly riches, those who manage to gain at least one of them will certainly be making the best investment ever. Don’t worry about this world, but do take care of your eternal happiness instead.
God created all things (Genesis 1) and, by all means, He could’ve created a distinct human race; a race without our weakness. Yet, He loved us and preferred to redeem us. My brethren, that’s a kind of love we can’t understand at all. The Lord has a wonderful plan for our lives and that’s the reason why we mustn’t take our happiness for granted. You’ll suffer forever without the Most High.
Our enemy uses many tricks – which we call “opportunities” – to drift the children of God away from the rewards they’re to receive if they’re faithful to our Father. Do get more involved with the work of evangelization. Your happiness depends on your decision.
In Christ, with love,
R. R. Soares
