My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; my ears hear my desire on the wicked who rise up against me.

Psalm 92:11

The trust King David had in God distinguished him from other people. Be honest: do you know anybody who has that same kind of attitude? Unfortunately, many Christians spend time praying in order for the Lord to prevent the enemy from attacking them because they do not want to face the evil one. But that was not David’s way of behaving; he knew that the Most High was with him and therefore he did not care about his opponents. He trusted in the fact that with the divine power he would overcome all hellish assaults. As a Christian you must behave the same way: do not let yourself be carried away by fanaticism, but by faith; this is how you will be victorious in everything.

You need to grow in faith till the point of confronting the assaults of your opponent joyfully. In so doing, the spiritual battle will become a great pleasure and serving God will be a joy. Try to grow in the divine grace, in the knowledge of the Word and in the battles of faith; after all, if you are in Christ nothing will ever be able to defeat you. The fear of losing any battle or of suffering any kind of retaliation from the enemy is already a sign of the victory of the devil over your life. Therefore, it is with joy – and not with sadness or terror – that you must look at those that are lurking out there.

However unbelievable as it might seem, the ears of the King of Israel rejoiced with what the evildoers said about him. And the reason for that is that David knew his persecutors would be defeated. Now, the Covenant that the Almighty One made with Abraham assured that God would be against those who rose up against him. That promise was also meant for that patriarch’s heirs, and David was among them. In Jesus, that assurance came to us. Whoever speaks evil of a child of God or who wants to cause them any harm will have to face the Almighty God and, most definitely, they will have no chance at all to defeat Him.

It is worth remembering that: “Our enemies rise to fall”. That means that we should pay no attention to their threats except to believe that, through them, our opponents will be defeated. We have to live our lives with the belief that God is real and, because of that, there is nothing we should be afraid of. After all, since the Lord fulfils all His promises, a child of God will never come out weak of any he might have waged because the Lord will strengthen him for war.

My brother, be fearless because you are part of that promise. The Most High does not want us to chicken out or to run away, but He wants us to fight our battles in His Name with the same bravery with which David faced the giant. He did not fear and neither did he let himself be carried away by Goliath’s threats because he knew that The Great One was inside him to give him victory. So, what will you do from now on? Do not give Satan the pleasure of oppressing you. Rise up and live successfully!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
