And you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall tear down their altars.’ But you have not obeyed My voice. Why have you done this? Judges 2:2

The people of Israel went out from all parts to a solemn meeting in Bochim, near Gilgal. The Angel of the Lord went from Gilgal to Bochim to give the Israelites the following message: I led you up from Egypt and brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers (Judges 2:1). They went through very difficult times because they had turned their backs on the Almighty. The way out was to convert, forsaking sin.

The Most High assured that He would never invalidate His covenant. This meant that the mistake was theirs. If they did not repent and did not convert, they would be like the nations that did not have God, and therefore all kinds of wrong things could be seen among them. Today, the Covenant of the Lord with man in the blood of Jesus will be fulfilled in full, if one walks before Him wholeheartedly. The Heavenly Father never misses!

God had forbidden the Israelites to make alliances with the peoples living in those lands, but they did so and were prevented from receiving the protection of the Lord. In the same way, anyone who despises divine precepts will not have the heavenly power operating in his favor and will be, along with his family, disturbed by evil spirits. The Israelites did not overthrow the altars of those peoples, so the enemies oppressed them.

Similar things have happened to many Christians. They no longer keep the commandments and accepted temptations in the intimacy of home, in business and social relationships. Although many consider the practices forbidden by the Word to be normal, those who give themselves to them are bound to evil beings. The forbidden acts cause the devil who commands them to be lord over those who practice such acts. Mercy!

They did not obey the divine voice! Why did they do this? They did not fear God. Since they did not strive to keep what He said, they could not be kept. How will He help a person if such yields to the temptations brought by the devil? The law of the Most High is clear: whoever obeys someone becomes a servant of this person. It is far better to obey the Word than to become a slave to the author of sins and passions!

The Israelites’ lack of submission to the Lord made it impossible for Him to act on their behalf. In those days, for having heard the adversary, those people would not be expelled from among them. Thus God declared, ‘I will not drive them out before you; but they shall be thorns in your side, and their gods shall be a snare to you.’ (verse 3). The solution is to believe and go back to doing the will of the Father, and He will fulfill His promises. Whoever serves the Lord will be served by Him now and forever!

Those people were sensitive to divine voice, they raised their voices and wept, and this was considered repentance. The Most High wants to see your attitude when you know what prevents you from being happy and experiencing His power in your favor. When God speaks, whoever has good judgment stops, thinks and decides to obey Him. What do you say?

In Christ, with love,

Lord, fulfiller of the Covenant! We thank You for making us understand what will happen to us if we do not repent of our sins and do not do as You have told us again. Forgive us, for we have acted blind and have been led astray from Your hands.

We do not want to act like the lost; otherwise we will not be delivered from the masters who humiliate us, making us their servants. Only You are our God, to whom we will serve and love. Make us come back, because tomorrow may be too late.

You will never make void Your Covenant with us, for it was made in the blood of Jesus. So there is nothing to fear. Your covenant with man shall never be torn. Your everlasting love and Your wonderful grace will never end!
