And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.   2 Chronicles 26.4

We will begin to study the life of Uzziah, son of Amaziah, king of Judah. His father was killed by conspirators, and the people made him king (2 Chronicles 25.27,28; 2 Chronicles 26.1). In the war against Edom, even though Judah was victorious, Amaziah despised the Lord. He took the idols of Edom and adopted them as his gods (2 Chronicles 25:14). From then on, the devil made him do much wrong. His soldiers threw ten thousand prisoners from the top of a high rock, and they bursted (2 Chronicles 25.11,12). The monarch was rebuked by a prophet, but he did not repent (verse 16).

It is worth seeing the good in people and imitating – Uzziah is an example of this. He reproduced the good things of his father. Acting rightly in the eyes of the Most High is the best decision at all times, even without having a full understanding of the divine will (Psalms 1.1-3; Proverbs 19.23). Whoever imitates the good will be remembered as one who has pleased the Almighty. We will be judged by the account of our actions (James 2.12; Revelation 20.12). Stay alert as how you have been walking (Ephesians 5.15)!

Never stop reading the Bible! The lessons in it will lead us to stand before God, and we will be known as servants who have made the Lord happy. Because we have the Holy Spirit teaching us, we will not make mistakes. Jesus’ recommendation is: Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5.48). This guidance will save us from many pains! Watch, pray!

Biblical heroes performed wonders everywhere! But we must not only mirror them, but mainly in Jesus, who never acted outside the heavenly will! When asked about His wonderful works, which amazed everyone, He said that God had commanded Him to do them (John 3.31-35). The Master always spoke the truth, and all who follow Him should believe and act the same way!

Christ gave us an example on how to behave in and out of the environment of faith in God, without bumping into anything. Whoever follows Him will never stumble, because he has the light of life (John 8.12). But if you ignore His teaching, you will be tremendously mistaken, for you have known the faith of deliverance, but chose the dark path of unbelief (John 8.32). The Lord will grant blessings to those who take on faith in Jesus. The devil will not defeat them.

When we have departed this life, there will be people referring positively to us and to others who have fulfilled the Master’s teaching, and they too will be successful in faith. We must strive for beginners in the faith in Jesus – to act through it. Otherwise, doubt will lead them into evil ways. Whoever learns from the Savior and acts like Him, serves as a teacher for future converts (2 Timothy 2.2).

We have to be like Paul, who fought the good fight and prepared himself for the day of receiving the crown of righteousness: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing (2 Timothy 4.7,8).

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares

God of our full obedience! Looking at Uzziah's willingness to follow his father's example, we see how important it is to learn from Jesus, meditating on His works, to set an example for the next generation.

If we do something outside Your plan, someone who is weak may think that it doesn't matter to follow You carefully, and so others will also err, and we will be responsible for that. Help us to do works that please You, to justify why we have come to light and salvation.

Uzziah studied every good deed of his father and imitated him. Likewise, we must act with everything Your Son has carried out here on Earth. We know that You expect from us actions that glorify You. Amen!
