Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:17

He who desires to please God and be pleased by Him must flee from the works of darkness. The spiritual fools do not see any problem in not consecrating themselves to the Lord, in maintaining questionable friends or doing what is condemned by the Scriptures. On the other hand, the wise – those who have learned more of Christ, entered the narrow gate, the difficult way (Matthew 7:13), and now struggle to remain standing – know the world is pernicious and therefore should be avoided.

Fools who have no affection for the truth and engage in sin do not realize that they are pleasing the enemy, not God. When attacked by the forces of evil they blame the Lord for not having protected them because deem themselves faithful in any situation. Their folly, however, proves that they have not been delivered. No servant of sin will be forever at church, right? This is why many depart from God’s house.

Everyone who is born again should seek baptism in the Holy Spirit for once they receive it they can escape temptations and at the first sign of wrongdoing the divine touch will be felt in their hearts. Actually, the disciples of Jesus are instructed not to engage with the \”Bathshebas” of this world (II Samuel 11). Instead, they wisely drink water from their own cistern (Proverbs 5:15) and in so doing they manage to flee whatever is tempting them. Brethren, if there is evil in your heart and you have been influenced by devilish offers, stop right now because it means Satan has managed to undermine your strength – and if the situation continues, your fall will be a sure thing.

The wise men of God will build upon the true and only foundation: the Word of the Lord; that is why they pay no attention to what is in the world and neither do they love its doings, therefore their clothes are never dirty. When they feel that behind a smile or insincere compliment there is an act of the enemy, the servants of God balk at it because they know that in order to be wiser than the enemy they must keep God’s commandments.

Those who have the wisdom from on High can resist even the storms because they are established on the Rock, which is the Lord (Psalm 62:7). They know that if they have sinned they might have had an extra pleasure, but because they obey the Almighty, they do not fall for the \”siren song\” for in the end they know that transient pleasures will cause them to embrace the eternal flames of hell. They would rather have nothing in life than obtaining something by means of lies and seduction, which are snares of the devil himself.

However, the unwise trifle with the commitment they made at the altar of the Lord and as a result they lose everything – including salvation! For them, the fools, there is no problem about a condemned pleasure or illegal money, provided that “it is for a good cause\”. If you find yourself in this situation, mend your ways right now while there is still time. If you do not want to get burned, do not be unwise because he who plays with fire will get burned!

In Christ with love,
