But the LORD said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.

Jeremiah 1:7

Oftentimes we feel like Jeremiah, who was commissioned by the Lord to promote His Word but felt he was not up to the challenge of that call. There is nothing wrong with confessing to God that you do not feel capable of doing what you have been told to do, but at the same time it is necessary to show Him that if He is on your side and gives you the means, you will obey Him.

In Jeremiah’s case, his excuse was not accepted. In fact, none of our claims will be admitted by the Lord because when He calls us to do a certain work He knows what we will need and equips us for such an enterprise. What we have to do is believe and seek direction in His Word and do the work. God will never send someone without providing him or her with the proper weapons.

The right thing to do is to be obedient and believe in what the Lord says about you through the Word. The Most High instructed Jeremiah not to see himself as he was on the outside because the divine call would turn him into a God-sent man. It doesn’t matter whether the person who was called is a man or a woman, rich or poor, illiterate or a doctor, because the mission He will give to that person will turn him or her into someone special. The Creator Himself will teach them what to do and what to say. Those who follow the Divine guidance will never stumble nor repent.

The mistake people make is to give excuses instead of putting their hands to work. The Lord has never failed in His decisions, and your call is a decision made by the Eternal God, who commissioned you to fulfill His wonderful plan. He certainly needs someone just like you for that work, which means you have been destined to do it; it cannot be done by someone else.

Let the Lord rejoice in your decision and go where He sends you. Do not negotiate with Him saying that the place assigned to you is very poor and violent or that the people in that place are atheists or more educated than you. The God-sent is clothed with the power of the Hammer – the Word – that breaks that rock in pieces (Jeremiah 23:29). You will succeed if you obey the Master.

Another important thing is to be a true and obedient servant who does and says what he is told. God does not like the timid or cowardly; He can only use those who are faithful. No matter the challenge, He still enters the furnace heated seven times hotter than normal and delivers those who do His will.

The order for us to evangelize has been issued. Jesus said that all who believe in Him are commanded to go into the entire world and preach the Gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). If you have not obeyed the Lord, make the decision to do what He commands. God can only protect and bless those who have no rebuke upon themselves.

In Christ with love,
