16/10/2010 - DO NOT LET YOUR PAIN GET WORSE

I was mute with silence, I held my peace even from good; and my sorrow was stirred up. (Psalm 39:2)

The attitude taken by the psalmist stirred up his pain. Even when dedicated to the work of the Lord, if a man does not watch out, he may make certain decisions that will worsen his pain. On the other hand, the pain of those who obey the divine ordinances will subside; after all, there will always be open doors for the wise and when they comply with the task assigned to them the reward comes.

Many attitudes we take can aggravate the problems that we might be facing. Actually, all the decisions outside the Word of God bring pain (Proverbs 14:12). If we remain in the flesh, we see that the price to pay is not worth while (Romans 6:20-21). The best in all situations is to fulfill what God commands us to do. When He calls us to do some work He is giving us the privilege that was not granted to anyone else. So my dear brethren, do not run from the Higher Calling.

Temptations come to snatch us from the Lord\’s plan. The devil, knowing that we have a mission that will lead us to reward, always shows up with his strategies, but all that comes from the evil one must be shunned at once. He who allows temptation to dwell in his heart will have his pain intensified. The right thing to do is to ask for the deliverance from whatever is tempting you because everything that comes from the enemy causes harm (John 10:10a).

Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor will be astounded by what will befall him (Proverbs 21:13). The Lord makes us hear the cry of those who are under the claws of the enemy, so if we shut our ears to what we hear we are actually allowing the devil to fulfill his evil and dirty intent. Do everything you can to not cooperate with Satan, for he who helps him sins and the wages of sin is death (James 4:17, Romans 6:23).

Once, in Gethsemane, Jesus\’ disciples could not watch with Him even for one hour in prayer because they were sleeping (Mark 14:37). Something similar has happened to many children of God and they are completely unaware of that fact. There are people who, for example, begin to pray and immediately start to yawn, to feel pain in the knees and think of a lot of things that they need to do. Then they stop praying, turn on the TV and watch a program for hours on end without falling asleep or feeling the need to do what seemed to be so necessary when they started to pray.

Many have not been able to follow the Master in His work because their eyes are fixed on the pleasures of the flesh, the allure of wealth and the cares of this world (Matthew 13:22). Escape it! If it turns out you need to undergo any loss, so be it, but do not stop doing what the Lord commands or your pain will worsen a lot. Right now, make the decision to obey God and do what He has called you to accomplish.

In Christ with love,

R. R. Soares
