The choice of the people who will be with us to fight the wars of the Lord is essential, as a separate group can lead us to victory or defeat. It will sadden the Savior. If you do not have your heart in God’s hands, you can get in the way. We must select well those who present themselves to serve the Lord; otherwise we will see failure come to us. Remember: in all things we are more than conquerors (Rom. 8:37)!
Those who rose with Joshua were men of battle. They declared themselves ready to take away the shame of Israel for the failure of the fight with the people of Ai. However, not all went with the captain. Many had not had the proper encounter with God, and this is very important. The enemy does not disclose the fact that we are with the wrong people in the fights, but enters the fray trying to beat us.
Moses had warned of individuals who would offer to fight for their country. They might want to participate through family pressure or other interests. Then, when the struggle intensified, they would never act as it is the duty of every servant of God (Deut 20: 1-9). The Lord dismisses large numbers of “warriors.” He really needs those who are guided by His counsel and are faithful. The victory comes from Him (21:31)!
Knowing God’s determination, Joshua must have announced to the fearful and interested in secular life an order to return to their homes. We must be aware of this lesson. The new convert needs to be proven and approved, showing boldness; otherwise it can never be listed in God’s army, neither to evangelize nor to minister the blessings of the Gospel.
Joshua left 30 thousand soldiers. That should be about 5 percent of men of war age in those days in Israel. He would put an end to that city that humiliated them and made them weep with grief over such shame. Now, having remedied the problem of that defeat, Commander Joshua was ready to execute vengeance on the Most High.
The chosen were sent at night, for this period is full light to the Almighty (Ps 139.12). For Christians, the lack of light is not an obstacle, because the divine power works well under any circumstances. With the illumination of the Holy Spirit, everything becomes easy for us. To the Lord be the glory!
The saved are prepared to serve the Most High, but whoever lets fear and other things into their lives must be set free first. The Omnipotent refuses to accept one’s backsliding (Heb 10:38). Sanctify yourself today, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders for you. Welcome to the Kingdom of God’s victorious and fearless servants.
In Christ, with love,

God of the fearless! We cannot think of retreating. We want to be classified for eternal life. You have prepared us to do Your will, so let us fight Your wars. Come encourage us!
The city of Ai bore the title of the only city that defeated Israel, but only because of the coveted Achan. He broke the covenant of the Israelites with You by touching the anathema. We never want to harm Your Name; so we ask fear of Thee.
Do not let us trust the fearful or seek their help; but it gives us the power to lead them out of this oppressive spirit. In the Name of Jesus, we will defeat the forces of evil!
and Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
