David therefore departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. So when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.

I Samuel 22: 1

There are some events in our lives that people make rushed judgements saying that those are works of God, but they are actually fabrications of men, who many times are acting inspired by the enemy. What happened to David, for instance, proves that the devil indeed fools with many people’s hearts. Yet, Jesse’s son showed he loved The Lord more on one occasion because – even when the opportunity of getting rid of Saul’s life came up – he preferred letting The Most High work in his favour instead.

Saul was decided to murder David out of sheer envy considering that he sensed that David was indeed the anointed of God. Sadly, that sort of attitude is still common nowadays. Almost always those people who feel little delight in the issues of God –although they attend church – tend to engage in bluffing not to have their positions undermined.

For David, the only way to continue alive and with his hands clean was to for him to flee because once he feared the Lord; he wouldn’t make any judgement against the anointed one of The Lord – a task reserved for God only. Therefore, it’s absolutely pointless taking attitudes on your own; you must look for the divine direction regarding what must be done and follow it. The Almighty knows much better than us the reason why we have to face some occurrences now and then and, in due time, He’ll let us know about His verdict.

We cannot always fully understand the operations of The Lord. David had to run to Adullum’s cave and he stayed there for quite a while facing days of despair, suffering and loneliness. Yet, he knew he was innocent and for that reason The God of justice wouldn’t let him fall into the hands of that ruthless king.  Whenever you happen to face similar situations you must follow suit and The Most High shall lead you to a place where the enemy won’t be able to reach you.

As that young shepherd’s parents and brothers heard about his new direction they promptly went down to be with him – an attitude which meant a lot to David; as a matter of fact, a gesture of compassion is most valuable for those who are being unfairly accused and that’s the reason why – even if only to say a simple prayer – we must go to those people who are falsely being accused and stretch out our hands to them. Walking along with the big shots when they’re taking wrong attitudes is absolutely not a commendable conduct for those who love the divine righteousness.

The Word says that a brother is born for adversity (Proverbs 17: 17). The solidarity demonstrated by David’s family must have thrilled him considerably. Thus, they showed no resentment on account of the choice of The Lord falling upon him to become King of Israel. They certainly prayed to the Heavenly Father in David’s presence to remind him of the fact that God was The One who had handpicked him, the young shepherd, to become Saul’s successor and that was indeed of great assistance to David.

Jesus said that whoever did the will of His Father was His brother, sister and mother (Matthew 12: 50). Of course we mustn’t despise our blood brothers but if one of our brothers-in-faith happens to need empathy we mustn’t deny it to them considering that it will certainly be of great assistance to them.

In Christ, with love,
