…and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked.

II Peter 2:7

If you do not feel the same way Lot did when he saw the people of Sodom being corrupted by sin, then you are not well spiritually and your fall might occur at any moment or may have already happened. The Holy Spirit said that Lot was righteous, but what will He say about you? This subject is too serious for me to use nice and yet insincere words. The command is to flee from sin (Matthew 26:41).

Some Christians have assimilated the abominable behavior of sinners. And by assimilating it they immediately get contaminated. Undoubtedly, the feeling that Lot was experiencing was the outrage of the Spirit of God against the practices of the people that inhabited the city where he lived. Those who consent to any type of error have already been seduced by evil spirits, whose mission is to spread the work of the devil in the midst of mankind.

Peter says that just as it happened amongst God’s people, there would be false teachers among us too. They do not deny the Lord entirely, but they do find excuses to justify their wrongdoings or they fail to rebuke what the Word condemns. Well, the end never justifies the means. The order is for us to be holy, as the Lord is holy (I Peter 1:16). Do not live with one foot in the Kingdom of God and the other in the realm of the evil one.

Even unintentionally, false prophets deny the sovereign Lord who redeemed them from darkness. They band with evil doers and innocently affirm that there is nothing wrong with their filthy and harmful practices. But when they least expect it, sudden destruction comes upon them. Why do they do what the Almighty forbids? The Lord did not spare the angels who sinned and neither will He spare those who insist on error (II Peter 2:4).

He who approves lawless deeds is just as wrong as the ones who practice them and because of such deeds the way of truth will be blasphemed (verse 2). Such acquiescence is nothing more than the deplorable commerce of faith. They speak deceptive words of corruption but their judgment has already been scheduled and will not tarry, and their destruction does not slumber (verse 3). Today is the day to rethink whatever wrongdoings you have condoned and turn back in repentance.

Just as the Lord delivered Lot (verse 7) so He will deliver the righteous of our days. However, the Almighty will cast down and reserve for judgment all those who condone or pretend not to see what the lost do. The Most High did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, a preacher of righteousness (verse 5). What was done with Sodom (verse 6) is a sign of what will happen to those who abuse His patience. May the Lord give you understanding to repent! And then you will be able to inherit the Kingdom prepared for you (Matthew 25:34).

In Christ with Love,
