“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified?” (Galatians 3:1)

Throughout the centuries there have always been foolish people in the midst of the children of God. The apostle Paul had lost his patience with the brethren of Galatia in the first Christian church because they were fascinated by something else instead of obeying The Truth. The apostle Paul was actually being polite when he called them “foolish”.

My brethren, those who know Christ and whose hearts are enlightened but try to gain the divine favor motivated by ulterior motives are enslaved by the spirit of nonsense. The Word of God is the Truth (John 17:17), therefore it must be obeyed according to the way the Lord pronounced it and the way it was put in the Scriptures; after all, it’s impossible to try to improve what’s already perfect.

Our salvation – our redemption from the empire of darkness – was the most effective and thorough measure that Christ took for us. So, there’s nothing to be improved; all we have to do now is to understand the divine commandments and abide by them. Now, once men began through the Spirit, why ending up in the flesh? Those who do that are showing they’re possessed by sheer foolishness.

Though the Galatians had been born again, they were being seduced to obtaining a better position. Someone taught them wrong teachings and they, out of good will, started to comply with them. As a result, when we read this epistle we see the apostle Paul reprimanding them severely to the point of saying that they were separated from Christ. Paul didn’t exaggerate because those who heed outlandish tales do drift away from the Truth and consequently draw close to the enemy.

There are people who might be well-intentioned but they behave in a completely wrong manner by coming up with weird things which have nothing to do with the Truth. We were saved by the Grace of the Lord and we didn’t have to resort to any hidden agenda to deserve it; that’s exactly the way we must live – there’s no need to offer penances or sacrifices to get something from the Heavens since we already own everything in Christ Jesus. We don’t have to believe in any “enlightened” man or woman who’s thought to have been visited by the Holy Spirit; a man or woman who thinks they’re now qualified to beseech God in our favor. The Most High doesn’t listen to those who are already dead and neither does He heed the “wise guys”. Yet, He does listen to the prayer of those who are alive; those who believe in His Word and serve Him with no personal interests.

My brethren, there’s nothing else to be done to improve your spiritual position except believing in the Holy Word and acting by faith; that’s what pleases the Almighty (Hebrews 11: 6), and He accepts you for His Grace, which has reached you and made you know that the blood of Jesus opened the way towards the Heavens for you. So, don’t believe that those who died can intercede for you, no matter how much they suffered or the good things they did. God listens to you only when you turn to him in the Name of Jesus – no other name is as mighty (Acts 4:12).

In Christ, with love,

R.R. Soares
