“Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.” (Philippians 1:24)

The very thing that pleases us the most isn’t always what we should do. We must think of those who aren’t mature in faith, for instance – that’s, by the way, one of the missions of Jesus. He who dedicates himself to those who need help certainly have God by his side anytime and it is a guarantee of success in all battles.

We’re working for the Lord when we work for the ones in need and there’s still a lot to be done in their favor (Matthew 25:31-46). So, we must share the Word we received from the Heavens with them; besides, it’s always good to remember those who are suffering and bless them in our prayers, keeping in mind that we do the right thing when we do it secretly. My brethren, whenever you’re preaching the Word, do not forget to bless someone who needs the Lord. That counts more to our Father than offering a lot of help in public in order to gain recognition.

In the passage mentioned above the apostle Paul decided to remain in the flesh. Though he knew that the best choice would’ve been to leave towards our Master, his second thought was that he needed to consecrate his life in favor of our brethren in Philippi and seek the Most High in prayer for them, so he decided to remain in the flesh. Of course he didn’t mean he wanted to die but the Lord must have given him two options to choose from: either to take him or to leave him here for a while. Paul probably asked for his departure to be put off so he’d be able to be with those he’d generated in Christ, those who needed his assistance.

There are many people who need us today and the best thing we can do for them is to consecrate our lives to God by seeking His presence and His revelations and getting the message of the Gospel across to them. Those who strengthen the weak in faith and help them to be victorious are doing much more than just helping them; in fact, it seems as if the helper is doubly blessed every time he lifts up someone in need.

When we dedicate part of our time to assist someone with a positive message or a prayer, we’re acting like Paul and Jesus who spent nights in intercessory prayer and woke up early in the morning to cry out to our Father for those who are in distress.

We’re working for Jesus when we cover up the naked with the divine garment or when we give the thirsty a glass of water or when we feed the hungry with the Bread of life, when we visit the sick with our authority or when we heartily receive those who’ve been abandoned and lonely. We’ll be rewarded by Jesus in the end. Have a thought about it!

In Christ, with love,

R. R. Soares
