Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell forevermore.

Psalm 37:27

Although Adam’s sin contaminated mankind, those who accept Jesus as Savior are taken from the kingdom of darkness and conveyed into the kingdom of the Son of God, where evil can not enter (I Peter 2:9) . However, because the devil still has not been done away with, he continues his nefarious mission to tempt people and lead them into falling. But he who follows the guidance of the Word will dwell in God’s heart forever (Psalm 37:27).

The secret is twofold: first, it is necessary to depart from evil, which the Bible says is the embodiment of the very nature of Satan. Those who do not depart from evil are known by the way they live, for they have evil thoughts, they are overtaken in negativity and in practices that are not pleasing to the Lord. You must make the decision to never let the wicked one cross your borderline in order to instill his suggestions in your mind.  

This is a decision that each person must make for himself. Whoever let himself be carried away by the enemy will find out that the devil will bring him not only fleeting pleasures but also suffering. There is no use arguing that others also think about sinful things or even practice them; if you do not depart from evil, the adversary will have free access to your life. Remember that this spiritual law is always fulfilled: Deep calls unto deep (Psalm 42:7).

The second secret is to do good. Examine what the Scriptures say and commit yourself to doing it. In so doing, your life will not only be filled with good things, but you will also see God’s hand working in your life mightily. Whoever does good is called the friend of God, just as Abraham was (James 2:21-23). To do good is to convey everyone, directly or indirectly, the divine message and use the authority given to you in favor of those who suffer.

Those who do good please the Lord, just as Jesus pleased Him. The Master always had a blessed word to give people and used the divine power to heal the sick, deliver the oppressed and supply the needs of others. When we act based on the Scriptures, even if it means not to comply with what some people might expect, it means we have given Him our very best; after all, if we declined to do something that was expected it is because it would not be good for that person.

Our aim should be to please God. If we do so, we will have our abode in Him. If you dwell in the secret place of the Most High, you will see that no harm will be able to reach you nor any plague shall come near your tent. Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right, you will not struck (Psalm 91:1-10). Those who dwell in the heavenly Father do not lack anything. Once you have this revelation, is it not a good thing to depart from evil and do good?
